organization
+
Services provided at the “Editorial
Assistance Program” include:

In-person copy editing

In-person writing consultation

Remote copy-editing
+
In-person copy editing

Graduate students bring their work to our editors to assist
and more efficiently locate:

Grammar and syntax errors

Citation assistance (such as: APA, MLA, Chicago)

Formatting assistance (both in relation to the style of the
student’s discipline and the Graduate School’s
requirements for submitting a thesis or dissertation for
graduation)
+
In-person writing consultation
Because each graduate student has different needs, the
“Editorial Assistance Program” also makes time for meetings
that are more reflective of a traditional writing center. These
include discussion about:

Argument and Evidence (such as how these elements of
writing work together to make a logically sound paper)

Organization (such as paragraphing and sentence order)

Clarity (such as argument’s presentation throughout the
paper)
+
Remote copy-editing
This is the service most often used by graduate students, so much
so that, along with an increase of other services, students voted to
increase fees for the GSA in 2011 in order to add another editor to
the service.

Line editing of a paper, including grammar and syntax errors

Professional editing queries (in the form of “Comments” and
“Track Changes”

Personalized cover letter (in the form of an email or longer
comment) to summarize the changes made by the editor

Open channel over email between students and their student
editors (should students have follow-up questions or concerns).
