Senior Slate

Attention Seniors

The Counseling Office will be communicating with you during your senior year through the Senior Slate. We will be providing information regarding your next steps after high school graduation. This information will include scholarship releases, financial aid, and information about special programs including employment and internship opportunities. Many of the announcements in the Senior Slate will be of great importance to you and we encourage you to always read the newsletter. An electronic version of the Senior Slate will be archived at the Pendleton County High School Counseling link at the district homepage.

The Counseling Office maintains a supply of materials relative to post-secondary education and transition throughout the year. These include registration packets and practice information for ACT and SAT and the FAFSA – the Free Application for Financial Student Aid.

You do not need an appointment to obtain the information flyers or applications described in this newsletter. Just stop by the front desk in the Counseling Reception Area and Ms. Glaza will be able to provide copies of the information that interests you.

Take a College Visit – To narrow your list of prospective colleges and to make the most informed decision, take a trip to the campus. Most have some type of planned visit day(s) on weekends in the fall, but you can also contact the college to arrange a weekday visit through the admission office. If you have a special interest like being a student athlete or study abroad, ask in advance for a scheduled time with the appropriate representatives. In addition to the planned tour, take some time to casually walk around campus and don’t be afraid to randomly talk to students and adults about campus life.

Fall Break scheduled for October 3 - 12 offers a great opportunity for a college road trip.

Be sure to plan ahead and schedule with the schools you want to visit. You can schedule your visit online at the college website or by calling the Visit Center or Admission Office. Reference your GETTING IN – CLASS OF

2015 book for contact information for schools in Kentucky.

Simple Steps in Planning a College Visit on a School Day:

1) Schedule the visit day with the college or university

2) Bring a parent note or send an email to BOTH Mrs. Wade & Mrs. Tammy Moore stating that you will be making an official visit and include the date you will be absent from school. Provide communication at least a week in advance of the visit.

3) Bring back a note from the school that verifies your visit. Give this note to Mrs. Tammy Moore when you return. The first two days are treated as a Field Trip; subsequent days will be an excused absence as long as you have not surpassed the 7 days allowed.

On Site Visits - Many colleges, the military and employers come to PCHS for recruitment visits. These will be noted on the school calendar & announced. Some are lunch visits and others are information sessions. Be sure to stop by and see college admissions counselors during lunch visits. Information Sessions are announced and students must sign up in advance to attend.
