The Scientific Reformation Chapter Six 166 The Scientific Reformation Definition of Myth – Macquarie Dictionary A traditional story usually concerning some superhuman being or some alleged person or event and which attempts to explain natural phenomena, especially a traditional story about deities or demigods and the creation of the world and its inhabitants. Gods and Goddesses Gods and Goddesses pertain to the domain of Mythology. As myths, they are mere make believe fictions. Sage scribes in the past, using the limited data at their disposal, attempted to explain natural phenomena in terms which seemed plausible to them. Their efforts have significant roles in our understanding of cultural evolution. Interesting though the fruits of their thinking be, they can have no place as scientifically demonstrable postulates in the foundations of formal systems of learning and academic religious knowledge. Aseity is a key word in the History and Philosophy of Science. Aseity’s name is neither fictional nor mythical. It is factual. She has life from her very own self. Aseity is SELFLIFE. Her Divine Nature is Existential Self↔Other Relativity Aseity has always been active in selflife existence. As long as humans have existed, so long have women’s ova been the vehicle of human selfpropagation. Only in recent times has Biological Science, aided by microscopes, revealed her Selflife’s true Nature in act as pregnant woman, the human female ego-egg-laying placental mammal. The Scientific Reformation 167 For two thousand years, women have had a bluffed and bullied existence at the hands of their all male intransigent ignorant ecclesiastical authorities. Fictional Mythological places like the Kingdom of Heaven and the Underworld of Hell are not Existential Revelations. The only reality which Mythology’s hypothetical “Daddy” God has up in the sky somewhere is as an unverifiable make believe idea in somewhat immature childlike human minds. Giving names to things or putting ideas or concepts, like gods and goddesses, into writing may give them a unique verbal literary fictional existence, but does not existentialize them IN ACT i.e., endow their essence with real actual selfexistence. As Peter sits in a wheelchair in front of his computer, his mind is still active, though his memory often fails him. He is satisfied that he has not only achieved his teenage goals of demonstrating scientifically, true or false, some basic religious ideas, but as far as he knows, his Thesis of Existential Self-Other Relativity is unique. It initiates a new oneness and togetherness to old themes in Science, Mathematics, Philosophy and Religion. He has restructured the logical basis of Cantorian Set Theory in The New Mathematics and by using the simplest linguistic analysis, removed the paradoxes from Set Theory, thus providing a consistent foundation for Mathematical Logic – a task hitherto deemed by Academe as impossible. The beginning on Page 3 is repeated here. The author’s lifelong quest for experiential knowledge of a divine maternal being within himself had led him to sail uncharted amniotic waters in the womb of the ever pregnant Divine Mother of all Selflife in the Cosmos. The Scientific Reformation 168 Some things still puzzle him and arouse his desire to understand how the events of the Patriarchal Era and male usurpation of the seats of learning and government were brought about. To the ever-questioning human mind, comprehending the mystery of sexuality has always been a challenge. Maternity was once held in reverential awe in matriarchal societies. Then came Aseity’s global Trial and Error experiment. How would future civiliz ations evolve if proud arrogant men refused to submit to her amicable dominion and were allowed to try to rule the world in a selfish belligerent male hegemony? We are witnessing the culmination of her trial and error pantomime. Christianity evolved from the fictional myths of monotheistic Judaism. In deference to a godfather of lies, its Mythology worshipped an allmale Trinity {Father, Son, Holy Ghost}. We know now that all such homosexual unions are sterile. There can be no fatherhood without woman’s ego-egg laying function. The patriarchal era is coming to an end. It must now be admitted that the Mythological foundations of Pauline Christianity are no longer tenable. In the Mythologies of the matriarchal cultures of the distant past, the mystery of new life, birth and growth focused attention on maternal aspects of the many titled Great Mother Goddess. Artistically exaggerated figurines or “Venus figures” date back to Cromagnon Time between 35,000 and 10,000 B.C.E. About 3000 years ago a new patriarchal mindset {I, Me, Mine} was initiated among the cattle breeding nomadic Hebrews in the Middle East. Eventually, it was incorporated into Greek and Roman ways of thinking and became the intellectual determinant of future Western culture. The author’s new book LET WOMAN SPEAK is an hypothesis of how it came to dominate in The Scientific Reformation 169 the West, and how it has progressed culturally until today’s seeming inevitable self-destruction. Life on Planet Earth is about to undergo profound changes. LET WOMAN SPEAK is designed to effect new paradigm shifts in cultural evolution. It is important to be mindful that it was the feminine principle in the supreme Deity that was so widely venerated in long ages past. Notions of female self-fertilization or parthenogenesis would seem to indicate that Goddess cults preceded similar male expressions of the beginnings of life. Archaeology is requiring historians to reassess the social structures of the dim past and to acknowledge that male bias has given us the wrong picture of how civilizations evolved. Modern scholarship has determined that the early civilizations of the Near East belonged to the Indo-European or pre-Indo-European families like the Sumerian and many others. Ancient Semitic peoples were confined to the Arabian Peninsula from whence later Hebrew tribes emerged. The latters’ semi-barbaric nomadic tribal culture wreaked havoc on the great matriarchal city states of Sumer and the settled woman-oriented agricultural societies which were integrated with them. Throughout many millennia, gender distinction and sexual intercourse in fertility rites were associated with procreation in spite of the long period of gestation. Only much later did servant man superficially reason a seeming integral male role in sexual copulation. The erect phallus and its ejaculation of semen had to have some meaningful function or purpose. They could logically be given a causal role in animal propagation. Male mind then reversed woman's superior position and man made himself the lord and master of she who formerly was his lady and mistress. The Scientific Reformation 170 Herdsmen’s necessary acquaintance with the mystery of sexuality was limited to animal husbandry in the breeding of their flocks and horses. Cultivators of the soil and the growers of plants and trees must certainly also have been aware of some sort of sexual distinction and union in the observed structure of flowers and the elaborate procedures for the male pollination of female ovules and their subsequent seed propagation. Two thousand years ago in the Pauline Christianity of the Middle East, Jewish Mythology played a foundation role. At first, the stories in the much later written Scrolls of Genesis were part of various oral traditions. Their written form begins: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. This is Mythology in the making at its very best. It gives verbal existence to a god who is also a creator of things which have beginnings. To the minds of tribal story tellers and their listeners, and subsequently to writers and readers he was male. This hypothetical being was given different names. They were all male, named in the image and likeness of the male scribes and priests who worshipped him with bloody sacrificial offerings and wrote about him in their sacred scriptures. One name that stands out above all others is that of the Hebrew tribal deity, Yahweh, generally translated as “I am who I am”. It was unquestioningly interpreted in the Hebrew patriarchal mindset as a male god. But was all this really so? Might it not just have been a deliberate experimental trial and error link in cultural evolution’s permitted wishful and aberrant thinking? Yahweh can also mean “I am whom I will my otherself become.” The key words in this Trial and Error sequence of events are the “WHAT IF…” of stage performances. Were the Hebrew tribesmen deceived The Scientific Reformation 171 on purpose? Were they chosen ones to put on show lessons of Good and Evil in the staged Drama of cultural evolution? What if proud arrogant men took control of human affairs? What if they demanded that all human beings worship and show obeisance to a deity who was also a Father God of lies? What if Aseity, the pregnant Motherself of the Cosmos seemed to let humans think that She did not exist? It is essential for understanding the evolution and history of modern cultural monotheism, to be mindful that in the Hebrew language, there was, and still is, no word for divine mother or goddess. No name meant no existence. Theologically speaking, in the patriarchal mindset, Judaism and its offspring were, and still are, motherless children. Greek Socratic male-only selfsufficiency paralleled a similar Palestinian mindset. All female divinities were officially anathema to it and to its later derivatives, Christianity and Islamism. Simple common folk were continually and vehemently reprimanded for whoring after the “unspeakable” goddess abominations of their godless neighbours. Judaism insisted that only its own male Lord God Almighty should be worshipped. Pauline Christianity did, and still does, the same. Its mindset could not conceive nor would it ever have tolerated any inclusion of woman in an all-male same-sex godhead. For the patriarchal authorities in Judaism and its Christian and Islamic offshoots, their deity could in no way be construed as heterosexual. In the metaphorical unity of the respiring breath of the Holy Ghost, Father and Son were literally and psychically homosexual, from the Greek word homos meaning same. Today, patriarchal ecclesiastical authorities still guard their male homosexual hegemony jealously. Neophytes are baptized in the name of a same-sex all male triunity. The Scientific Reformation 172 Cultural Evolution bears witness to both the proposing and the disposing of hypotheses. Already existing Egyptian and Sumerian creation myths had suggested a heterosexual origin and content. It was a simplified but deliberately distorted version to limit creation just to the activity of a motherless single almighty masculine Father in his sky canopied Heaven. Reverential worship and obedience to its all-male deity and its priests for the past three thousand or more years is experiencing a profound paradigm shift. Christianity is at a crossroads in cultural evolution. The sources of its revelation, the Bible and Tradition, were considered and decreed to be inerrant. Both are now in a quandary regarding their empirical verifyability. It comes as a surprise to professed Christians of the Western world to learn that their Religion is based on Hebrew cattle breeders’ fictional myths. Believers are being forced to choose between either a retrogressive childish fundamentalist worship of the Bible and Tradition, or by cutting their umbilical link with the past, be reborn into the becomingness of adult age in an intellectual Scientific Reformation. Hypothetical creator-gods were made in the image and likeness of the men themselves who created them. Hebrew monotheism initiated the beginning of an arrogant despotic patriarchal phase in cultural human evolution. The common folk were naively persuaded that their Lord God Almighty actually spoke at times to them through Moses and subsequent prophets. It would seem, Hebrew Mythology was the first and only major religious cult whose absolute deity was uniquely of male gender and in which there was no place for any form of heterosexual ritual and worship. Christianity and Islam followed suit. In repudiating any form of female Self-Other Relativity in divine relation- The Scientific Reformation 173 ships, it betrays being under the influence of a deliberate deceiver, an Evil One, a Father God of lies. The Hebrew scribes wrote what they believed they were being inspired to write. For them, it was their tribal mythical God who inspired belief in his own existence. It was this same God who was supposed to have inspired their scribes to compile laws deemed necessary for human behaviour. Israelite history, for the most part, was an almost continuous record of infidelity and disobedience to their Lord God. Absolute obedience to Yahweh was the dominant human virtue. The threat of severe punishment for disobedience was purported to be voiced by Yahweh through his prophets. As captives in exile they could but look forward to some future liberator who would restore the honour and glory of Israel. The combined Pauline and Johannine mindsets melded into Christianity and its Theology. Christian Theology is basically baptized Christian Mythology. Imagined divine justice demanded that the honour of a fictional Creator Father God was so outraged by created men’s acts of disobedience that only a divine act of propitiation and vicarious atonement could reinstate mankind’s favour in his God’s sight. For simple minded people, this was the all-powerful motivating force for unquestioning obedience to all kinds of male authority, religious, legal, civil and domestic. Disobedience was a heinous sin. It undermined male superiority and authority. Let Divine Woman Aseity speak her eternal love story to East and West, to North and South. We pray her truly catholic Queendom come within us. She can also tell of a fictional tragedy and catharsis in her Drama of an Evil One’s cancerous self-destruction in the mortal conflict between the singular sterile The Scientific Reformation 174 individual {I, Me, Mine} and the plural fertile togetherness {We, Us, Ours}. Male monotheism eventually came to dominate in the West. With belligerence and violence, it is rapidly progressing to its own demise in self-destruction. Aseity worship is designed to effect new paradigm shifts in cultural evolution. Mindsets in Transition YAHWEH: This Hebrew sacred and feared word understood only male monotheism. It verbalized the singular individual mindset of the motherless personal male God of Israel as {I, ME, MINE}. Pauline Christianity evolved from monotheistic Judaism. It proclaimed and worshipped a motherless mindset, an all-male homosexual Trinity {Father, Son, Holy Ghost}. A-sé-i-ty: This English four-syllabled scientific word meaning having life from itself, understands and verbalizes the plural social mindset of the ever pregnant personal Mother Self of the Cosmos as {WE, US, OURS}. Cultural Evolution on Planet Earth might well be about to undergo profound changes. Armies and arsenals are being prepared for global thermonuclear war. If such eventuates, it could abort most of the inhabitants from the live womb of Mother Earth.. Pauline Christianity cut its umbilical link with the female sexual source of all self-other life and love. Her genitalia were declared to be pudenda, organs of which she should be ashamed. Freedom now from service to female authority and liberation from any reverential worship of her charms ensured mankind’s salvation and attainment of noble Socratic self-sufficiency in The Scientific Reformation 175 what was now divinized male homosexuality. Heterosexuality was belittled. Celibacy was nominally extolled but its practice often dubious and sexual satisfaction sought in other unapproved ways. The maintaining of Church property solely under strict Church control was a primary concern why its ministers should remain celibate. Unmarried, they would not be required to provide for housing, clothing and feeding natural human families out of Church funds. In past Catholic Moral Mythology, there was no such thing as light matter with respect to sexual sin, whether of word, thought, or deed. Every such sin was mortal and the unshriven were punishable in hell’s fiery underworld for all eternity. These ideas are being changed by an enlightened understanding of the possible evil role of mutant genes. Paedophilia was a poor and often an embarrassing substitute for mutual heterosexual affection. This author accepts Christianity's intended male fertilizing and distinctioning role in two millennia of cultural evolution. Human selflife can only perceive the divine as an immanent mothering experience, analogous to the pregnant placental mammal. It is the divine maternity in labour in the human psyche who knows her human brainchild “You” as the son of man within. Judaeo-Christian traditions have melded the patriarchal cultures of the West. Exclusively male priesthoods have masterminded their own ecclesiastical development in their external worship of an invisible, ineffable and transcendent heavenly father god and creator up in the sky somewhere. He was out there, inhabiting inaccessible heights. He was all-powerful, all-knowing and as lawmaker and judge he condemned and pardoned, was merciful and also vengeful. In the past such a deity mirrored, and still continues to The Scientific Reformation 176 mirror, the experience of its male worshipping selves. They have continued to bask in the reflected glory of an exclusive tribal lord and manly god. For the Jews of old, The fear of the Lord was the beginning of Wisdom, and out of a holy reverence and mortal fear of desecration, the name of their Yahweh became an unpronounceable Tetragrammaton, YHWH. In the Gospel attributed to John 18/36, the Nazarene Jesus is said to have protested to Pilate that his kingdom was not of this world. Eventually however, it became the most powerful earthly political Empire the world has ever known. The poor still had a Pauline sort of gospel preached to them, but it was that of the bad news of anathemas, excommunication and eternal damnation for unshriven gravely sinning baptized Christians and for all the unbaptized pagans as well. Their teachers did not learn from a Master who was reputedly poor in spirit, meek and humble of heart but generally from hypocritical and stubborn ecclesiastical authorities determined to maintain their developing conceptual systems intact and to increase their own power and authority. Eventually, however, the male of any species learns his place is at the service of the female and her offspring. Just two word alterations are all that are necessary to remove the inconsistencies from patriarchal monotheism and to effect the rebirth of natural religion whilst renewing the face of Mother Earth. The first word change is the simple replacement of God the Father with Divine Mother. In both divine and human parenthood, the key figure is Woman as Mother. As on the front Pages v-vi and later on Pages 53-54, the maternal Aseity is ego-egg laying par excellence. We humans originate as her ego-eggs. In person-defining speech, She is the first-person whose The Scientific Reformation 177 spoken “I AM” resonates as “i am” in every one of her selflife’s second-person “thou art” units. What we have been accustomed to call All Creation is in reality her spaced time becomingness. Her spaced time ovarian words-made-flesh complete the existential self-other relativity of her “you are” ego-eggs, now become the first live phase of her personal human otherselves. If we are determined to hypothesize about religious themes, then any sort of construed Creed and its subsequent Cult must begin with “I believe in Aseity, the ever pregnant Mother Self of the Cosmos”. This is passing from the fictional realm of Mythology to the certitude of a modern Scientific Reformation. The second word change is to abandon the Pauline hypothesis of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and to restore the manipulated Greek word back to its original meaning in Aramaic which was resuscitation. It now seems that the Nazarene reformer, Jeshua (Jesus), did not die on the cross. He did not have to make a vicarious personal atonement to an outraged divine parent Paternity for the heinous blasphemy of disobedience to the ordinances of a male God’s despotism. The Shroud of Turin is not merely unique. It is the most mysterious and important artefact ever to have been subject to intense human academic scrutiny. As an object of human investigation and scientific study, the Shroud has been subject to more analysis than any other object in human history. The research in regard to its authenticity engages more and more scholars. Their conclusions as to whether the Carbon Dating was valid are increasingly controversial and cast increasing doubt as regards the integrity of some participants in the identification procedures of 1988. Motives for not wanting the Shroud to be proven authentic are The Scientific Reformation 178 obvious. Conspiracy Theories are voiced. If it is true that the mutilated but still living body of Jesus was wrapped in the Shroud, then the Resurrection foundation of Pauline Christianity collapses. The type of stitching in its seams was unknown in the Middle Ages. It has only been found elsewhere in exactly matching cloth found at Masada near Jerusalem and which dated from the first century. The message of the now photographed Shroud is undeniable and stunningly most persuasive. The crucified body that was responsible for the image was not dead when wrapped in the Shroud. There are a score or more of identifiable blood stains. Dead bodies do not bleed nor can they produce photo-vapograms with myrrh and aloes. The Catholic Church now finds itself on the horns of an inescapable dilemma. If the Shroud is authentic, then Jesus the Nazarene did not undergo a resurrection from the dead but only a resuscitation of the living. If the Vatican chooses to insist on the traditional Pauline Theology of the death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ, then the most valued artefact of all time is condemned by Papal Authority to be a fraud, historically, scientifically and theologically worthless. To continue venerating it as its most precious and priceless relic, is ecclesiastical dishonesty and hypocrisy of the most heinous sort. Some historical observations. The books in the New Testament are not arranged in the order of their being written, nor did most of them have the precise authorship that various Church traditions attributed to them. Other scribes concurred in much of their writing. It is generally accepted that for the most part, the so-called Letters of St. Paul were The Scientific Reformation 179 written first, in the late 50s and early 60s. It is also agreed that there was biographical material of a sort about the Nazarene Jesus and collections of his supposed sayings circulating in the late 50s. It would seem that the first Gospel, attributed to Mark, was written in the mid-60s. The other Gospels are dated by historians as being between the years 70 to 100 or even beyond. Their actual authorship and source material are matters of speculation by biblical scholars. The Gospels did not originate in an early cut and dried sequence that fundamentalist Christians and their ardent Evangelical teachers would like to believe. Decades elapsed before all the bits were unified. The so-called early Church seemingly evolved for 30 or more years without any sort of official written backup that we know of. It is not this writer’s intention to try to make a coherent and consistent whole of the numerous pieces of information in circulation during and after this time. As modern Biblical scholarship progresses, such unification becomes increasingly impossible. There is no definitive way of distinguishing Gospel fact from contrived Gospel fiction. It is a general consensus among biblical scholars that a satisfactory Life of Jesus the authentic Nazarene Reformer cannot be written. The Gospels, in elaborating inspired pious stories about a hypothetical Jesus of Nazareth have no basis in fact. It takes some of the magic out of Christmas when it is understood that the Infancy Narratives in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke only made their appearance at least seventy years after the event. Jeshua was a common Aramaic word name. Its meaning was Yahweh is salvation. Translated into Greek, it became Iesus and its meaning continued as Saviour. Christos was a Greek word name and The Scientific Reformation 180 translated the Hebrew mâðîah, anointed one. With this name Christians professed their belief that Jesus was the Messiah. The historical Nazarene Jeshua and the conceptualized Iesus Christos of Paul’s Greek-written Mythology are highly controversial subjects of academic speculation. Contrary to some traditional accepted meanings, it must be understood that Nazarene has no reference to the village of Nazareth, but denotes a member of a religious sect known as the Nazarenes. We know much more about them from Archaeological research and indirectly through recently discovered written material like the Dead Sea Scrolls. The word Nazarene, from the Aramaic root nazar, meant a kind of ‘picking out’ or ‘preserving’. A Nazarene was both an observer and preserver of sacred rites. One of the most important questions regarding the early history of Christianity can be summed up: By whom and under what circumstances was this Greek name, Jesus the Christ, first thought of and given meaningful usage in preaching and writing? For one evolutionary motherless child sequence of Jewish Myth-Theology, as developed by the converted Pharisee, Saul of Tarsus, better known as the Roman patrician Paul, the conceptual Messianic Jesus the Christ became psychically identified with the historical Jesus the Nazarene. Out of the latter's past perceptual physical existence as a reformer and teacher grew the Pauline mindset with its conceptual identification of him as the Messiah, the Anointed Christ, the Holy One, the Royal Liberator. Before Paul’s conversion, only a physical person, Jesus the Nazarene had existed. In Acts 22/8, the word Nazarene is voiced, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?...I am Jesus the Nazarene, and you The Scientific Reformation 181 are persecuting me.” After his conversion (about 35 AD), this Jesus became in Greek the conceptualized Jesus the Christ who figured now in new evolving religious beliefs. Jesus the Nazarene was the natural child of Jewish parents whose genes he shared in natural human propagation. Jesus the Christ was Paul’s mythical brainchild. It was Paul’s profound understanding of Judaism which gave birth to the movement which later on at Antioch would have its followers first named, perhaps even derisively, Christians, as recorded in Acts 11/26. Later, in the Johannine mindset, using male terminology and Greek Philosophy as the vehicle for theological precisioning and development in formal systems or creeds, he was named the Incarnate Logos, the Word of God made flesh. He was declared to be the Son of God who came down from heaven into Mary’s surrogate womb being conceived there by the power of the Holy Spirit. In their attempted representations of God the Father, Christian artists generally had recourse to the image of an Old Man with a beard, riding on the clouds of the heavens. Such was depicted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. Past and present theologians have conceived their mythical deity as a kind of ageless, changeless paternity. Lacking knowledge and understanding of genes and gender distinction, they interpreted the two Genesis stories of creation according to their own immature mindsets. No matter how much modern theologians repudiate their former literal interpretation of the Adam and Eve myth and their allegiance to and alliance with The Old Man with a beard up in the clouds somewhere, these ideas still lurk on in their subconscious medieval mindsets and continually surface in their liturgies. For The Scientific Reformation 182 them and also most Christian believers, their mythical God is an all-powerful, all-knowing HE. Generally no rational distinction is made between God the Father and God the Son. Those who see the Son, see also the Father. Technically, they are an homosexual or same sex union, both masculine, both God, both “him”. In public worship, liturgies counsel the faithful to lift up their eyes to the heavens and then to bow down their heads before their “Daddy” God. The biblical use of “Abba” as meaning Father would correspond to our use of “daddy”. Christianity and the Catholic Church in particular are on trial. Their interpretations of cultural evolution and their destined roles in it are fruits of a male hegemony. They do not stand up to the scrutiny of modern scholarship. They have reached their use-by date. Doctrinal issues and so-called orthodoxy have always been of paramount concern to Church authorities. An oversimplified view of early Christianity has had to give way to a growing realization that the delusions and illusions of the patriarchal mindset soon led the disciples of the Nazarene Jesus and their converts into patterns of thought which their Master would never have countenanced. The discovery of Apocrypha and old writings as in the Nag Hammadi texts have had a profound effect in rethinking biblical scholarship and what happened in the first century or two after the departure of the Nazarene Jesus. It is true to say that apocryphal Gospels, like those of Mary Magdalene and Judas do not add anything new of which scholars were not already aware. But other historical evidence tells us about the Essenes and Nazarenes which early Church writers were only too happy to ignore or deny. They The Scientific Reformation 183 demand that we question whether the early history of the Church was as simple as we had been led to believe. Two centuries before the Christian Era, there had appeared among the Jews of Alexandria and Palestine a quite extraordinary new religious movement with mystical aspirations. In Alexandria they were known as Therapeuts, whilst in Palestine they called themselves Essenes and Nazarenes. The word Therapeut meant ‘one who ministers, a healer’. As its name also suggests, they had a special interest in medicines. The word Nazarene, from the Aramaic root nazar, meaning a kind of ‘picking out’ or ‘preserving’ does not appear explicitly in the Dead Sea Scrolls. However, such true meaning in the Greek Gospels is undeniable. The Dead Sea Scrolls reveal a lot more information about the Essenes than was hitherto known of the sect. The teachings of the Essenes anticipate those of Jesus and throw much more new light on the historical Jesus himself. There is, quite understandably, no mention anywhere of the Essenes in the New Testament, although we know from other sources that their numbers were quite significant, probably several thousand. It could well have been that the writers of the N.T. thought that the reputation and credibility of their Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, would have suffered by his being associated with the suspect spiritual movement of the much hated and highly unorthodox Essenes and Nazarenes. It is accepted by most scholars now that the John the Baptist of the Gospels was a leading figure of the sect of Qumran. It is conceded too that Jesus was affiliated in some way with a branch of the Essene sect known as Nazarenes, as were also Nicodemus and Joseph of Aramathea. Scholars continue to research The Scientific Reformation 184 how much the Essene movement influenced early Christianity and how involved was Jesus in an organized movement before and after his Crucifixion. The Essene community lived in caves excavated in the rock walls of the Qaratania Mountains. These bordered the Dead Sea and were opposite the biblical town of Jericho. Here it was safe to live, well away from the unfriendly dominant Orthodox Jewish majority. They fasted at set times, abstained from eating meat, drinking wine and sexual excess. They lived in voluntary poverty and as a community they recited and sang religious texts and hymns. They wore distinctive white robes (John 20/12). The Essenes had lay members who lived in nearby towns and villages. There they married and brought up their children, all the time leading pious, virtuous spiritual lives. The parents in lay families often gave up their first born son to become a monk in the cave monastery. Perhaps the son of Elizabeth and Zechariah, later to become John the Baptist was in this category. There was a major cultural difference between the Therapeuts of Egypt and the Essenes of Palestine. The former were more intellectual, spending most of their time seeking wisdom in sacred studies, silent contemplation and performing religious rituals. Essenes on the other hand, whether fully fledged monks in mountain caves or simple lay folk living in villages in the plains occupied themselves with agriculture and were also practicing artisans. According to the Qumran Scrolls, the Essene community lived in expectation of an imminent end to life on earth. They prepared themselves for a future with their God in heaven by leading prayerful lives on earth and doing good deeds to everyone in need. The Scientific Reformation 185 The Essenes were linked with the Nazarenes. It would seem that this identification was deliberately obscured by a contrived faulty translation in and of the Gospels. There is similarity between the sound and spelling of the word Nazarene and the word Nazareth. Experts in language analysis are adamant there is no possible derivation of Nazarene from Nazareth. It is a convenient deceit to translate Jesus the Nazarene with Jesus of Nazareth. The earliest Greek texts of the Gospels mention both the village of Nazareth and the religious sect of Nazarenes. Catholic churchgoers are aware of the letters INRI above the representations of Jesus crucified - Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudeorum. Some languages translate this as Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews. In English, only the Jerusalem Bible gives this correct translation. All others follow the traditional but erroneous version of Jesus of Nazareth etc. Research refutes any linking of Nazarene with the town of Nazareth which probably did not even exist until some time after Jesus’ childhood. Pilate’s inscription indicated that Jesus was being crucified because he was an important member, perhaps a master or major reformer in a group of Nazarenes. This is out of context of his being King of the Jews. This latter epithet was foreign to Jesus’ mind and was most likely an addition by the scribe of the Gospel of John to stress that Jesus the Christ was the Jewish Messiah. Nobody (John 1/46) would ever have accepted that the King of the Jews was from an insignificant little backwater like Nazareth. Bethlehem was the Davidic hometown. The Nazarenes were detested by the Sanhedrin which was the Jewish High Council and by most Pharisees and Jewish Scribes. The Nazarene way of life The Scientific Reformation 186 was something new and their practices of prayer and fasting were vastly different from traditional Judaism. They seem to have been opposed to animal sacrifice and absented themselves from the bloody ritual slaughtering in the Temple at Jerusalem. Protesting against such unsavoury elements in orthodox Jewish worship and also denouncing the rigidity of their application of the Mosaic Law ensured there was no love lost between the Sanhedrin, together with the main body of Pharisees, and the Nazarenes. Jesus, the outspoken Nazarene reformer, was a major thorn in their side. Reputed diatribes by him against them are recorded in the Gospels. For them, he was a public enemy. It was better for him to be done away with rather than any Jewish traditions suffer. The Roman authorities seem to have tolerated the pacifist Jesus. He was quite harmless and not intent on a rebellion against the Roman yoke. His rebellion was against the Pharisees. It was the Sanhedrin who had him arrested, brought to trial, charged and sentenced to death. The Incarnation and Redemption are dominant themes in the Roman Catholic Religion . Like it or not, Biblical Theology is really Biblical Mythology. Biblical scholarship researches human fictions, not Aseity’s existential self↔other relativities which are new to it. Peter has the most profound admiration for Jesus the Nazarene, the teacher and reformer, but he cannot empathize with his religious beliefs which were strictly determined in the Jewish patriarchal mindset. Aseity is initiating a radical paradigm shift in her own relation to the birth and death of the son of man born of woman. Jesus the Nazarene was historical and factual. Jesus the Christ was conceptual and of a human mind’s invent. The Nazarene Jesus was a The Scientific Reformation 187 physical entity. Jesus the Christ was a psychical construct. As Paul’s worded brainchild, he was made flesh by being intentionally identified with the physical, factual Nazarene Jesus, the son of Mary and Joseph. Unless Mary’s own child had developed naturally from one of her numerous ego-eggs, fertilized somehow or other by someone, she could in no real way be understood now as a true mother. The reality is that in the ovaries of the mother of Jesus, there would have been thousands of live ova like the ones from which her first born and other children were formed. Like all such once living human incarnational material, her mature unfertilized ova just disintegrated in time and were aborted in natural menstrual cycles. There are two contrasting viewpoints concerning the conception and birth of the child, first known as Jeshua, who grew up in Palestine to become Jesus the Nazarene and eventually becoming regarded as The Master. The first viewpoint is what would have been natural to any ordinary observer. Jeshua and his parents were Jews. His first disciples and followers were Jews, mainly Nazarenes. It was ingrained Jewish tradition that men and women should marry, should consummate their union and should raise families. Following this rigid Jewish tradition, Jeshua’s future parents would have married, would have consummated their union and have raised a family. Jesus would have had brothers and sisters. He was destined, moreover, to become locally quite a famous rabbi reformer. Jewish commentators affirm that it would have been impossible for any young rabbis, like Jesus and Saul of Tarsus, aspiring to become Masters in Israel and enjoy the respect of their peers without being married. It is only now after almost 2000 years that scholars who The Scientific Reformation 188 dare to suggest that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, are not dragged into the public arena and stoned to death for such heinous blasphemy. The other viewpoint is set out in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke where the conception, birth and childhood of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God are given quite elaborate treatment, albeit some seventy or more years after the event. This is the way the members of the early Church wanted to express their faith and understanding of how Paul’s brainchild Jesus the Christ had become incarnate. Because he was the Son of God who died on the Cross for the sins of mankind, who was raised from the dead by his Father, ascended into Heaven and was seated now at his right hand, it required that his conception and birth be truly unique, something completely different from the ordinary. Acceptance of Mary's divine maternity has been the touchstone of orthodoxy in much past Christian theological disputation. In their ignorance of the role of the female gamete-ovum, past churchmen could only conceive Mary's motherhood of Jesus as what today would be treated as a species of surrogate parenthood. For them, following what the Bible and Tradition would seem to imply, she was not a true mother with her own live ego-egg’s X-chromosomal contribution, but her womb was merely a flesh recipient and implanted receptacle of a supernaturally conceived and miraculously incarnated divine person transplant. What do the present Masters in Christendom think actually happened when they say The Word was made flesh? It is no use theologians trying to avoid this now basic inconsistency in supposedly inerrant divine revelation with the argument that the Biblical writers and Fathers of the early Church knew and cared The Scientific Reformation 189 nothing about Biology and Genetics. All the more reason for theologians now to learn the facts and to modify their teaching accordingly. Every male father and son know the absolute necessity of a female mother. Apart from their literal biological usage, any other pious metaphorical father-son meanings are simply symbolic and invalid now for expression of religious belief. Unless teaching authorities can explain otherwise, the Gospel accounts of Mary’s virginal conception and birth of her child and the Definitions and Decrees of Centuries of Church Councils can only be classified as contrived fictions of conveniently and expediently exaggerated legends and misunderstood outdated myths. Together with them, must be included the Magisterial insistence that Mary and Joseph never consummated their marriage and as a consequence, Jesus did not have brothers and sisters. The distinction between the historical physical Jesus the Nazarene Reformer and Paul’s make believe psychical construct Jesus the Christ is fundamental to any real and satisfactory understanding of the recorded events of early Christianity. With this distinction, the Resuscitation of the crucified Nazarene Jesus and the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, take on completely new perspectives. For many Churchmen and the faithful believers in the pews, it is simply inconceivable that their deity could have allowed them to be deceived. The inerrancy of Scripture was sacred. In no way could they even consider that the mission of the Jewish teacher and social reformer Jesus was anything other than what they had always been taught. To suggest, as the Shroud of Turin does, that he did not die on the cross The Scientific Reformation 190 but that he was resuscitated and then departed soon after from the Palestinian scene is scandalous. It is in relation to the death and burial of Jesus that Science is finding itself questioning and threatening to undermine Pauline Christianity’s most basic and cherished idea. In this new context, the expression ANTICHRIST is valid and extraordinarily meaningful. Peter is absolutely and vehemently PROJESUS. He cannot accept, indeed he is opposed to (anti) the myth-fiction of the Pauline Christ. For centuries, the Catholic Church has held as sacred and venerated its most celebrated relic, the Holy Shroud of Turin. In 1898, at a public showing of the Shroud, for the first time in history, a photograph was taken of it using the recently developed art of photography. Modern photography demonstrates that its faint, seemingly blurred outlines act as a kind of photographic negative. When photographed, the new negative now becomes a positive, revealing the face and body of a man who underwent all the details associated with the sufferings and burial of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels. Further studies revealed a fearful possibility. From jealously guarding its authenticity, the Vatican now began having second thoughts about accepting it as genuine. It faced a devastating dilemma. There are a score or more marks of well-defined bleeding on the Shroud. Dead bodies do not normally bleed, nor do they sweat and have fever conditions necessary to produce photochemical negative images through contact with myrrh and aloes. Was the man who was responsible for the blood imprints on the winding sheet, and the subsequent vapogram gradually impressed on it still alive when laid on it in the tomb? If the Shroud were authentic, The Scientific Reformation 191 the main body of Christian Theology would become irrelevant and need to be rewritten and Jesus the Nazarene’s teaching mission understood anew. This is the situation which threatens the very foundations of Christianity itself. What IF the Turin Shroud is proven to be what its supporters claim for it? In the minds of some Guardian Prelates in the Vatican, one fact stood out – The evidence of the Holy Shroud must never be allowed to contradict the official Mythology of the Roman Catholic Church. There are perplexing, indeed incomprehensible, details in some Biblical narratives. Not the least of these is the about one hundred pounds’ weight of a mixture of myrrh and aloes which John, or the author of the fourth Gospel, says that Nicodemus brought to the tomb along with the body of Jesus, John 19/39. This ‘about’ a hundredweight is a huge quantity of extracts from medicinal herbs. Such herbs, like aloe vera today, can be easily made into tinctures and ointments, and were commonly used in the treatment of extensive areas of mutilated tissue. In combination, mixtures of myrrh and aloes represented the most effective healing agents for wounds as well as affording the greatest possible protection against infection. Such medicaments, and in such quantity, could only have been intended to cure and restore large areas of the damaged skin tissue and wounds of a still living person (Mark 16/1, Luke 23/56). The writer obtained his Diploma of Pharmacy in 1943. He has studied and handled myrrh and aloes. Though they could be included under the Greek generic term or word άρωμα, meaning aromatics, myrrh and aloes are not spices. They are resinous exudations of plants. They were never part of Jewish burial ritual as described above. Myrrh and aloes, in combination, The Scientific Reformation 192 were among the most powerful antiseptic and healing agents known at the time. They were valued also as aromatics. Every week, as a Pharmacy apprentice, this writer would dust the bottles in the Dispensary. Among the latter was a bottle labelled Tinct. Myrrh. Co. [Compound Tincture of Myrrh and Aloes]. In those days, its use was limited to painting on sore or ulcerated gums and as an ingredient of mouth washes and gargles for ulcerated throats. The only purpose of such an extraordinary quantity, a hundred pounds weight, in the circumstances of John 19/39 would have been to restore and resuscitate the live mutilated comatose body of a drugged crucified man. Pilate had marvelled that he was already dead when the Nazarenes, Nicodemus and Joseph, asked for the body of their Master. Christianity is becoming divided. Most Christians who still care about their traditional Religion remain loyal to the old ideas and ways of thinking. They are not disposed to abandon the former fundamentals of their Faith. On the other hand, many persons of goodwill search for more knowledge of, and experience of, meaningful religion. In their quest for union with the divine, they now accept that in the planned evolution of human culture, we are outknowing our cherished myths and outgrowing our revered cults. If the Turin Shroud is authentic, the Mass has lost all its meaning. Paul’s Mythology of the Messianic ChristRedeemer and his vicarious atonement for the sins of mankind becomes pious old fashioned make believe. The Resurrection becomes once more what the original Aramaic word intended, namely Resuscitation. This alternative understanding of the events of the first Good Friday would remain only pure conjecture were it not now for the evidence revealed by the The Scientific Reformation 193 Shroud. Instead of being merely an hypothesis, there is now factual scientific confirmation that the body that was laid on the winding sheet was not dead. A dead body, without a functioning heart, does not normally bleed. Such Shroud vapograms can only be produced by the interaction of warm moist vapours on chemicals in contact with the surrounding cloth. Such vapours could only be from a live fever-ridden body. With the publishing of the carbon dating results and their adverse judgment on the Shroud’s authenticity, ecclesiastics might have hoped that they could return to the status quo of traditional belief in the death of Jesus on the Cross and the latter’s memorial incorporation into the Liturgy of the Mass. Sooner or later, the Masters in Christendom will have to concede that the historical Jesus, the Nazarene Reformer, had the genes of his parents who must have consummated their marital union. They will also have to concede that this author's thesis of Self-Other Existential Relativity as enunciated in his restructured foundations of Mathematical Logic takes the mystery out of the Trinity. Finally they must come to terms with the situation of John 19/39. The Christian community was made up, for the most part, of just ordinary people who must have wondered quite often about what preceded the public ministry of Jesus the Nazarene and what happened after that. To satisfy their legitimate curiosity, it was necessary for something to be written. Just how much of this described genuine historical events, or how much was just contrived pious fiction to supplement and make more plausible a novel emerging mythical Theology, was no doubt argued by critics and lobbyists from the Gospels’ first appearance right up until now. The days of appeasing, with bloody rituals of animal The Scientific Reformation 194 slaughtering and unbloody sacramental sacrifice, the wrath of some legendary divine fathergod offended by acts of childish human disobedience are hopefully and thankfully numbered. Likewise there is drawing to a close in the Evolution and History of Religion that period of symbolic redemptive ritual and liturgical worship as performed by a hierarchically designated male priesthood in Holy Orders. The Sacrifice of the Mass was decreed as a retrospective enactment of what was once a ritual human sacrifice. A well-planned political assassination, passively suicidal and juridically expedient, was rationalized much later on into a formal conceptual theological system and liturgy of divinehuman self-other atonement. The Gospel's understanding of Jesus' Father-Son relation was expressed in the context of a strictly patriarchal tradition dating back to the first patriarch Abraham himself. On Calvary, the original fictional motherless child hypothesis of a divine patrilinearity was seemingly abandoned and the promise of a new more meaningful universal Mother-Son Queendom was voiced, John 19/27. In the new creation or rebirth, an obsolete Pauline Theology of a Fall and a Redemption and Justification will be superseded by the ever relevant concept of a universal participation in building up the TempleWomb of pregnant Aseity’s Selflife Spirit within us. The clean oblation that humanity will accord to Aseity is a covenant, sealed psychically with the resonant echoing of her divine selflife. The duty of self-sacrifice entailed in the negative feedback of its former "I-me-mine", now plurally translated, will guarantee to each human person also the right to full priestly participation in the regenerated unity or mystical body, "We-Us-Ours", Selflife Incorporated, Aseity Inc. The Scientific Reformation 195 In their book The Jesus Conspiracy, Kersten and Gruber set out a lengthy and comprehensive alternative version of the Resurrection story. They insist that the Biblical translations which involve the word Resurrection are derived originally from an Aramaic verb meaning ‘resuscitate’. The Greek translations of this original concept were άνίστημι (anhistemi) and meant to ‘awaken’, ‘get up’ and άνάστάσισ (anastasis) meaning ‘rising up’. Only in the Apostle Paul’s later advanced mythological interpretations is anhistemi made to mean ‘raise from the dead’ and anastasis ‘resurrection’. The ‘empty tomb’ discovery, following a day or two after the Crucifixion, gave rise eventually to two schools of thought. Both accepted that the Nazarene Jesus was now alive. The first school, comprising his Essene and Nazarene friends Nicodemus, Joseph of Aramathea, Mary Magdalene and others in the know of the medical treatment applied to the once crucified body, had no reason not to accept that Jesus had not died on the Cross. He was very much alive. What happened next? That is part of the Jesus Enigma. He still must have had many enemies and also many friends apart from the chosen disciples. Disillusioned perhaps, he might have thought that after all that had happened, it would be best not to be seen to meddle in Temple politics any further and to leave Palestine altogether. The attraction of a more contemplative life might have induced him to go East to India. Holger Kersten, in his book Jesus lived in India gives a plausible treatment of this theme. Most of his Nazarene friends would have remained in Palestine. There was some bond between them since they had all been associated with the Master The Scientific Reformation 196 Jesus. We do not know exactly how they grouped themselves together until the converted Paul came on the scene. He initiated the second school of thought. His message was of the Nazarene Jesus, now become Paul’s brainchild Jesus the Christ. He was the longed for Messiah. He had been crucified and died on the Cross. The Lamb of God had been slain to take away the sins of the world. He had restored mankind’s favour with God the Father. Atonement had been made by the vicarious sacrifice of a human first born son of man to appease an offended Father God’s wrath. Under Paul’s authority, this second make-believe version of the resuscitation now became the resurrection. By fair means or foul, it was made to prevail in the early Church community and was taken for granted by the writers of the Gospels. The traditional Pauline same sex male interpretation of patriarchal Religion still has the sanction of Christian Church authorities. Paul’s visionary experience was a divinely determined genuine supranormal psychical phenomenon. He did not set out to deceive his fellow Jews. It was in the If…then…plan of Aseistic Evolution. His teaching and writings were inspired in a patriarchal mindset which at times echoed the double-crossing distortions of the Godfather of lies. They were only relevant then to the latter’s continuing culture. If the Shroud is authentic, the Jesus Enigma is unveiled. Thanks to a hundredweight of natural healing medicines, Jesus did not die from being hung on the cross. Comatose, he was taken down and pharmaceutically resuscitated. Even if scientific carbon dating is not allowed by the Vatican to be applied to uncontaminated genuine The Scientific Reformation 197 samples from the Shroud to authenticate its age, the implications of the uniqueness of the Shroud itself becomes a dilemma for Pauline Christianity. As an object of scientific research, it is bewildering in its mystery. There is nothing in the historical data, past or present, of human observation to be compared to it. Without an original, it cannot be called a copy or forgery. As a work of art from the Middle Ages, it anticipates the invention of photography by almost a thousand years. The Catholic Church now finds itself on the horns of an inescapable dilemma. If the Shroud is authentic, then Jesus the Nazarene did not undergo a resurrection from the dead but only a resuscitation of the living. There was no First, nor future Second Coming of Christ, the Son of God the Father. This writer believes that the demise of patriarchal monotheism is imminent. For him, “Abba”, the Pauline “Daddy” God only existed within Paul’s own mind. The Sign of the Cross is a misconception. It bears witness to the burden which human beings, especially women, have had to bear due to the arrogant pride and deceit of malekind’s Godfather of lies. The whole story, from another viewpoint of Science and History, is set out in the controversial book by Holger Kersten and Elmar R. Gruber, entitled The Jesus Conspiracy published by Element Books. The sample cut from the Shroud had been weighed with precision. For Kersten and Gruber, the sum of the weights of the three received pieces as measured in the individual selected laboratories did not agree with this. Likewise the combined dimensions of the three pieces did not match with those of the original sample. When the Shroud had been exhibited in 1978, among other observations it had been subject to the very latest photographic techniques. Subsequent The Scientific Reformation 198 micro-photographic analysis enabled the weave of the cloth to be observed with the minutest detail. The distributed sample pieces had also been photographed when received by the laboratories. Though at first glance the pieces looked similar to the cloth of the original Turin Shroud, it became apparent on further detailed study that the laboratory authorities had been given pieces of a different cloth for dating. The conclusion of Holger Kerston reads as follows. Therefore, although the fabrics looked similar at first glance, they were not the same after all. The proof is conclusive: the laboratories were given pieces of the wrong cloth for dating, cloth which did not come from the Turin Shroud! The later-added fourth control specimen had been cut from a vestment, the cope of St. Louis d’Anjou. It is obvious from the published results of the carbon measurements of the three laboratories that the supposed sample of the Shroud gave almost the exact age as that taken from the cope of St. Louis d’Anjou. As more inconsistencies were brought to light, it became evident that the scientists and authorities involved in the investigation had something to hide. Contradictions were revealed in the official version of the events of the whole procedure. The part played by the Vatican throughout the whole affair is far from transparent. No reason was given why the Pontifical Academy of Sciences was excluded from the final stages of the experiment. To many it only made sense if, having pre-programmed the whole procedure, the Vatican now used this ruse to be able to deny any involvement and thus to avoid having to answer any further questioning. It was more than content to let the scientists attend to their science. The ecclesiastical authorities would continue The Scientific Reformation 199 to adhere to the traditional Gospel account of the Crucifixion and Burial. But the Gospel accounts of these events, not only contained their own inconsistencies and difficulties, but the latter could be much better interpreted and understood in the light of the evidence of the Shroud. An alternative narrative of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial would have Nicodemus and Joseph of Aramathea, both intimate friends and admirers of Jesus, executing a well-planned strategy to rescue their master. This would be effected without the consent or participation of the other apostles. By administering a narcotic drink after only a short time as he hung on the cross, he would have passed into a deathlike coma, John 19/29. This was sufficiently effective to persuade his executioners to believe he was already dead and there was no need to break his legs as was done with the other two malefactors crucified with him. It did occasion, however, Pilate’s marvelling that he was already dead, Mark 15/44, when the same Nicodemus and Joseph asked him for Jesus’ body. Jesus’ loud cry just before ‘he gave up the ghost’ was inconsistent with someone about to die of suffocation, Luke 23/46. Removal of the seemingly lifeless comatose body to a nearby tomb was part of the plan. There they would treat its external wounds with the best healing agents available. This was not to be a burial sequence, but a skilful medical procedure. There is deceptive information in the Gospel accounts. Normal Jewish burial ritual only included washing the corpse and afterwards anointing it with oil before wrapping it in a shroud. Adding spices is nowhere mentioned in Rabbinic texts and was never part of The Scientific Reformation 200 Jewish custom nor was embalming which would have required the surgical removal of the stomach contents. The evidence from the Shroud is quite different from the Gospel version. The bloodstains and wounds reveal that the body was neither washed nor oiled. Instead it received healing treatment with the most powerful natural medicinal agents known at the time. There is no reason for the faithful in the pews to be disillusioned by this turn of events and this new knowledge and understanding of the origins and present status of Christianity. An integral Neo-catholic Church, reborn in a Scientific Reformation, is perhaps much closer than we have dared to think. The Beautiful Lady of Lourdes, Fatima and of other sites bespeaks a loving caring gentle Mother, ever mindful of the Children in her Selflife womb. The childlike minds of both well-meaning Christians and non-Christians alike, of pious folk of The East and of The West have always intuitioned a real divine Mother Self, sharing her selflife with them all, her begotten spaced time human gods and goddesses. Praying to Our Lady, the ever pregnant divine Mother of all selflife in the Cosmos, has been and will continue to be a meaningful act of universal religion. **************************** The Scientific Reformation 201 SALUTATION Aseity, within “US” in heaven, hallowed be your name.
