UNIV 1120 Annotated Bibliography for “Athens, I Love You” 1) Young, Ben. "More Than A College Town." Georgia Trend 24.2 (2008): 73. Supplemental Index. Web. 3 Nov. 2013. This article’s title conveys most of it’s message, but I like this article because it talks about what Athens has to offer other than being an ideal college town. There are so many resources, outlets, and social settings that foster creativity and independence, and that’s really the essence that I want to capture in my documentary. 2) Coulter, E. Merton. College Life in the Old South. Athens: University of Georgia, 1951. Print. This book discusses more of the history surrounding the University of Georgia and what it’s like really going to school here. I think it’s important to have a historical perspective on the University juxtaposed with the opinions of current UGA students. It’s interesting to see how scholars analyze UGA while students just give their honest, raw opinions of their time here. 3) Choy, Susan P. "Access & Persistence: Findings from 10 Years of Longitudinal Research on Students." ERIC - Access & Persistence: Findings from 10 Years of Longitudinal Research on Students. ERIC Digest., 2002-Feb. Institute of Education Sciences, n.d. Web. 4 Nov. 2013. <http://eric.ed.gov/?id=ED466105>. This web article was published by ERIC, a website sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences, so I feel fairly certain that their research is thorough and accurate. This article is ten years in the making and has analyzed college students throughout this span of ten years. I found it interesting because again it gives a more scholarly, research-based account of college students whereas my documentary gives a portrayal of actual, current UGA students and their opinions. 4) Wolters, Christopher A. "Self-regulated Learning and College Students' Regulation of Motivation." Http://psycnet.apa.org. PsycNET, n.d. Web. 4 Nov. 2013. <http://psycnet.apa.org/journals/edu/90/2/224/>. This article also discusses a study that was regulated by a professional, accredited institution, so I know that this source is legitimate. I found it interesting, because it talks about college students’ motivations. This is definitely relevant to my documentary because several of the people I interviewed talked about how cool it was to come to UGA where everyone has a motivation for coming here and studying different things and what those motivations are. 5) Azmitia, MargaritaSyed, MoinRadmacher, Kimberley. "Finding Your Niche: Identity And Emotional Support In Emerging Adults' Adjustment To The Transition To College." Journal Of Research On Adolescence (Wiley-Blackwell) 23.4 (2013): 744-761. Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection. Web. 13 Nov. 2013. This article is definitely relevant and legitimate because I found it through the UGA Libraries website. It relates to my documentary because people I interviewed talked about how their lives changes when coming to college and what lessons they’ve learned since being in college.
