How the College Board’s 1-9 AP Essay Scale Breaks Down to a Classroom Grade in Pre AP:
9 = 97
8 = 93
7 = 87
6 = 83
5 = 75
4 = 65
3 = 60
2 = 55
1 = 50 or below
Curving AP Multiple Choice:
All AP Multiple Choice practice taken for formative and summative grades will be curved according to the square root
curve. On a calculator input the original score, press square root and multiply the new score by 10 (moves the decimal one
place to the right).
Ex. Original Score = 93
93
= 9.64 x 10 = 96.4
Make-up Work:
1. Students must make-up work when absent.
2. Students will have two class days for every day absent to complete and turn in the work.
3. Students should make-up quizzes and/or tests during a tutorial session following the absence. Failure to do so will
result in a zero. If an assignment or quiz/test has previously been announced and is due or given on the day the student
returns to class, the student is expected to turn in the assignment or take the quiz/test.
4. Make-up work is the STUDENT’S responsibility.
Late Work:
1. The policy in the student handbook regarding late work will be followed.
2. Major grades such as essays, projects, presentations, etc are due on the date assigned during the class period in which
the student is enrolled, even if the student is absent on that particular day. Please plan accordingly.
2
3. Mechanical failures such as printers breaking, ink becoming depleted, computers crashing are not an acceptable excuse
to miss a deadline since most are assigned in advance. As a rule of thumb, do not wait to print something the night
before it is due.
4. All assignments are due at the beginning of the period, unless otherwise indicated.
Note: In case of emergencies, mishaps, errors of judgment, writer’s block, busy schedules, etc., it is YOUR responsibility
to communicate with me your issue via face to face, email, a note, etc. Also, explaining your issue just before the bell
rings will NOT get you a favorable response. =(
Retest Policy:
From Hendrickson student handbook:
 Students scoring below “70” on a Major (Summative) Grade shall be allowed (or may be required) to redo the
assignment/test (or similar) after completing prerequisite work. The higher grade, with a maximum of “70”, shall be
recorded.
 Retesting/redoing should be completed within the three week bundle period (unless the teacher makes alternative
provision for extenuating circumstances).
Academic Dishonesty
Academic dishonesty includes cheating or copying the work of another student, plagiarism, and unauthorized
communication between students during an assignment or examination. The determination that a student has
engaged in academic dishonesty shall be based on the judgment of the classroom teacher or another supervising
professional employee, taking into consideration written materials, observation, or information from students.
Students found to have been engaged in academic dishonesty shall be subject to disciplinary penalties.
Assignment of Grades

The teacher has the discretion to drop grades as long as minimums above are maintained.
Timeliness of posting
 Teacher will refresh on-line grade books each Tuesday by 4:30 p.m.
Format and Procedures:
This course is structured around the processes of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will write up to 5
processed based essays in addition to journal writing, SSR, and various textual related activities. Students are expected to
attend class on a regular basis, turn in all assignments, and take responsibility for absent work. This course has multiple
formats: direct teach, independent reading and writing, group activities, projects, discussion (my favorite) and
assessments.
Academic Integrity
Each student in this course is expected to abide by the Pflugerville ISD Code of Conduct and Student Handbook with
regard to Academic Integrity. Any work submitted by a student in this course for academic credit will be the student's
own work unless otherwise specifically directed by the teacher.
Code of Conduct/Expectations
Students are expected to follow the code of conduct and all policies set forth by PISD and Hendrickson HS. Specific
details may be found in the student handbook.
Important Notes:
 DEAR will be done throughout the entire year, meaning that each student should constantly have an assigned
novel or assigned nonfiction magazine in hand. The students will be held accountable for what they are reading
through projects and assignments.
 Each student will receive a calendar every nine weeks outlining everything that will be covered/graded during that
grading period.
 All other curriculum information can be found on the Pflugerville ISD website at,
http://www.pflugervilleisd.net/curriculum/bundles/hs_ela.cfm .

PARENT HOMEWORK:
In order to get you to know your child as you do, I’d like you to share something about your child who will be
in my class this year.
One of the value words we will explore this year is honor. I’d like to share an example of a time when your
child did something honorable or something that made you proud of them.
While I will read these, I will not share them with your student or with other students as this memory may not
be something a teenager wants everyone in class to know about. This is just so that I can understand your child
as you do.
Assignment: Write about a time when your child did something honorable or something that made you proud
of them.
Length: Minimum: A paragraph of four to six sentences.
Maximum: Two pages (This is for those of you who like to brag on your child!)
How to turn it in
Participation is highly encouraged, but not required!
You may return the information to me via your student or you may email me with the information. Please
address the reason box in the email: Student Name, period, Parent homework and send to:
haley.honey@pfisd.net
Again, I look forward to a great school year with your student at Hendrickson High School in 2013-2014.
As a team we can work together to help your Hawk soar to new heights!
Sincerely,
Haley Honey
