NSF Scholarship for African-American Women in Computer Science Florida A & M University is providing an outstanding opportunity for Black women entering college. It is designed to address their absence in the field of computer technology. Dr. Jason Black is the Principal Investigator of a recently awarded $552,000 NSF Grant entitled African-American Women in Computer Science. The grant provides scholarships from $4000 to $10,000 per year for female African American students. We need your help to get the word out about this great opportunity to build back up the enrollment of women in the CIS Department. The NSF S-STEM program, E ngineering and Computer Science S cholars T argeted for A cademic S uccess (E-STARS) , is designed to provide enhanced academic support services to students pursuing engineering and computer science degrees at USF. Depending upon their eligibility for federal financial aid, limited financial support is available for advanced undergraduates and graduate students. Applicants must meet the following criteria: 1) Be US citizens or permanent residents; 2) Eligible for federal financial aid ( including loans); 3) Enrolled in an engineering or computer science program at the USF College of Engineering; 4) Have at least a 2.7 grade point average for undergraduates or above; 3.0 grade point average or above for graduate students; 5) 6) Undergraduates – must have completed at least 60 hours of coursework Graduate students - must hold concurrent TA or RA appointments or the equivalent with prior TA experience For undergraduates, support up to $4,000 per student may be available and for graduate students up to $10,000 per student. Prior to making any award, each applicant ’s overall financial aid package will be reviewed. As a precondition of any award, students CANNOT hold off-campus employment, including weekends, during any award period (Fall to Spring).
