Sponsorship Proposal to ORGANIZATION NAME
Parkinson SuperWalk takes place this September 12 and 13, and is our largest national
fundraiser and runs each year in September, raising $2.9 Million across Canada last year.
In Central & Northern Ontario we engaged over 3,000 participants in 33 walk locations,
where our walkers raised over $1,050,000 to support our vision of a better life and a
brighter future for Canadians living with Parkinson’s today; a world without Parkinson’s
tomorrow.
Parkinson SuperWalk participants are committed to that vision. They are committed to
making a difference not just for the 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson’s today, but
also to future generations. With the aging of Canada’s population base, the rate of
incidence is set to increase dramatically – by 2031, the number of Canadians over 65
living with Parkinson’s is set to double. The need is already great, and it will only grow
greater. We ask you to share their commitment and demonstrate your corporate support
of Canadians living with Parkinson’s.
Parkinson’s is an isolating condition, leaving those who have been diagnosed and their
families confused about what can often be very individual experiences and challenges.
With challenging physical (motor) and non-motor symptoms, people often end up alone,
uncomfortable and afraid. Beyond our traditional methods of supporting people living
with Parkinson’s, our family focused Parkinson SuperWalk events allow people to see
the bigger picture. Often, this event is their first experience with the larger Parkinson
community. Make no mistake, Parkinson SuperWalk is about raising funds to support our
mission but, the value of the connections we make along the way cannot be understated.
From the moment that anyone, anywhere is diagnosed Parkinson Society is there. Your
support funds support services, education and advocacy while making contributions to
our National Research Program. Parkinson Society works hard to be there for Canadians
living with Parkinson’s today, while funding innovative research on novel projects aimed
at ensuring that we can provide better treatments and also a cure for Parkinson’s.
Parkinson SuperWalk Partners
Our event is actively seeking corporate partnership. On a local level we have a broad
suite of recognition opportunities available for organizations that are interested in
showing their corporate solidarity for people living with Parkinson’s and the 400,000
Canadians who are affected by this disease.
We gratefully recognize our sponsors through our regional office, and on the day of the
event. For details on recognition opportunities, please see page three of this document.
People Living with Parkinson’s in Our Region
Nearly 100,000 Canadians have Parkinson’s. The estimated prevalence rate is 100 to
200/100,000 population, with an incidence rate (number of people newly diagnosed each
year) of 10 to 20/100,000. Eighty-five percent of those diagnosed are over the age of 65
and that age group is predicted to rise dramatically over the next 16 years from roughly
100,000 to 167,000.
Per the recently released National Population Health Study:


The number of Canadians over 40, living with Parkinson’s disease, will increase
by 65 per cent, from 99,000 in 2016 to 163,700 by 2031.
The number of Canadians over 65, living with Parkinson’s disease, will more than
double to 148,800 by 2031.
Event Demographics




83% of our walkers participate as part of a family and friends team.
12% of our walkers have Parkinson’s disease. The remaining 88% are family and
friends who come and support their loved ones through this journey or are
individuals walking in memory of someone who has passed.
Our most actively engaged demographic groups are females aged 26-40, and 4155, though we actively engage participants across all age and gender groups.
Our flagship event in Toronto involves roughly 1,000 participants on an annual
basis.
