Course Description: AS 100 is a survey course that focuses on the organizational structure and missions of the Air
Force, officership and professionalism, and includes an introduction to communicative skills. A weekly
Leadership Laboratory (LLAB) consisting of Air Force customs and courtesies, health and physical fitness, and drill
and ceremonies is mandatory.
Course Objectives: The AS 100 student should know the organizational structure of the Air Force, and understand
the customs and courtesies and professional appearance required of an Air Force officer. The individual should
know the Air Force Core Values and understand the concepts of professionalism and officership as they apply to
the military along with the opportunities and benefits available to an Air Force officer. The individual should
demonstrate basic communicative skills.
Course Goals: Course goals are met through the MAIN POINT/SAMPLES OF BEHAVIOR for each academic lesson.
You are strongly encouraged to use the objectives for each lesson as you prepare for each class and the
examinations. All MAIN POINTS/SAMPLES OF BEHAVIOR are testable items.

Attendance Policy: According to AFROTCI 36-2010, paragraph 2.9.1, Attendance Policy, cadets must attend a
minimum of 80 percent of scheduled AS classes (or substitute activities determined by the respective AFROTC
Instructor and with approval of the Detachment/CC) to receive a passing final grade unless host university policy
requires a higher attendance percentage. Failure to maintain an 80% attendance rate will result in failure of the
class. This attendance policy also applies to “academic only” students.
Grading: IAW AFROTCI 36-2011, para 4.33.4.1, “Cadets must receive a grade of “C-“ or better in AS classes and
LLAB. When the cadet receives a grade of “D” or “F” in AS class or LLAB, the cadet must be investigated for
disenrollment (contract cadets) or dismissed from the program (non-contract cadets).”
Class Preparation: I expect you to complete all required reading assignments prior to each class session in
accordance with the attached schedule. Quizzes, exercises, and class discussion will come from your assigned
readings and associated samples of behavior.
Classroom Behavior: Punctuality is important and expected. Failure to comply will affect your grade and could
result in you not being retained in the program. Entering class after the instructor has started class will result in
one tardy. If you made prior arrangements with me, the tardy will be considered as an excused tardy. However, if
a student arrives late without prior coordination with me, they must submit a memorandum explaining the tardy
by the next class meeting. If a student receives 2 unexcused tardies, this will count as one unexcused absence (4
unexcused tardies would result in the loss of one letter grade). Eating and drinking is permitted in the classroom,
as long as you are discrete and clean up your area when finished.
Uniforms: You are responsible for properly wearing the uniform and meeting the required grooming and fitness
standards directed by Air Force Instruction (AFI 36-2903). The Cadet Guide covers the necessary specifics for these
areas. All cadets should refer to the current Operations Order (http://airforce.ucf.edu) for the correct uniform of
the day.
Academic Plan Review: In accordance with AFROTCI 36-2011, you will complete an academic counseling with me
no later than 15 Oct 2011. I will review your academic plan using AFOATS Forms 16 and 48. I will provide you with
a sign-up schedule and once you select a time and date, this becomes a mandatory appointment.
Webcourses@UCF: This course will make use of the Webcourses@UCF system for posting of important course
information and updates. You are responsible for checking this system before every class meeting.
