NATURE CENTERS and

BROOKSIDE GARDENS

BLACK HILL HIGHLIGHTS

 Black Hill Visitor Center is located in Boyds, Maryland and is the home of

Black Hill Nature Programs.

 The center sits atop a hill overlooking Little Seneca Lake in the 2,000+ acre

Black Hill Regional Park.

 Park naturalists have explored the area in and around the lake, and have incorporated the best the region has to offer into a wide range of programs for all ages, in all seasons.

 Program participants can:

 Kayak Little Seneca Lake’s many nooks and crannies looking for beaver, waterfowl and turtles

 Learn how ancient peoples survived the changing Piedmont seasons.

 The littlest naturalists can hear stories as they take a ride on the Kingfisher pontoon boat

 Adults can add different birds and butterflies to their life lists as our expert guides point out wildlife hotspots.

BROOKSIDE NATURE CENTER

HIGHLIGHTS

 Since 1961, Brookside Nature Center has engaged visitors in fun and meaningful ways, connecting to both the natural and cultural resources of Montgomery County.

 Nestled within the 536 acres of Wheaton Regional Park, the nature center provides interpretation of the surrounding ecosystems: forest, pond, stream and meadow.

 The nature center building is accessible to all, and features live animal exhibits (reptiles, amphibians and fish), the Children's

Discovery Room, an observation bee hive, and wildlife exhibits.

 On the nature center grounds, discover a wooded nature play area, native plant gardens, accessible interpretive boardwalks, the Harper 1870s Homestead Cabin, and miles of hiking trails.

LOCUST GROVE HIGHLIGHTS

 Conveniently located in Cabin John Regional Park, Locust

Grove Nature Center provides a natural sanctuary from the surrounding urban bustle.

 Designated as the outreach center for area schools, Locust

Grove continues to offer quality public programs for all ages.

 Program offerings include:

 Specialty Nature Immersion school programs

 Programs for tots to preK

 Campfire nature walks

 Special events

 You're also welcome to come and wander our trails, enjoy our observation deck, explore our exhibits indoors and out, or discover the wonder of the Center's natural playground.

MEADOWSIDE HIGHLIGHTS

 Located in Rock Creek Regional Park, Meadowside Nature Center offers hands-on natural and cultural history programs for families, schools, and scouts.

 Visitors can spend their time hiking our 8 miles of Nature Trails

 Hawks, Owls and an American Bald Eagle reside in our outdoor Raptor

Aviaries.

 Visitors can explore the diverse habits found in Maryland as they crawl through a cave or look at the world from a fish's point of view in our

Legacy of the Land Exhibit.

 The Curiosity Corner discovery room contains books, games, puzzles, and more live animals for young naturalists to explore nature in childfriendly environment.

 Visitors can also experience the lives of the Maryland pioneer and Eastern

Woodland Indian families in our Legacy of the People exhibit were they can try on clothes, play games, and touch animal skins.

BROOKSIDE GARDENS

HIGHLIGHTS

Brookside Gardens is Montgomery County's incomparable, awardwinning 50-acre public display garden situated within Wheaton

Regional Park.

Included in the gardens are several distinct areas:

 Aquatic Garden, Azalea Garden, Butterfly Garden, Children's Garden,

Rose Garden, Japanese Style Garden, Trial Garden, Rain Garden and the Woodland Walk.

 The Formal Gardens areas include a Perennial Garden, Yew Garden, the Maple Terrace, and Fragrance Garden.

 Brookside Gardens also feature two conservatories for year-round enjoyment.

 A horticultural reference library is located in the airy Visitors Center.

Admission to the gardens is free.
