Diagnostic Essay (60 Points) Purpose: Just as you don’t yet know me, I don’t yet know you. As your English teacher, my job is to help you grow as a reader and writer. But first, I need to know your starting point, so I know best how to help you. Thus, you will need to write for me. There is no way around this. Directions: Respond to the following prompt in essay format. While reading may not be at the top of your to-do list, I think it’s safe to bet that you spend a lot of time watching T.V., going to the movies, and listening to music. What is the best television show or movie? Who is the best music artist? Write an essay arguing about one of the above topics. The television show, movie, or music artist may be current or from the past. While I value your opinion, you’re going to have to work to convince me of your viewpoint. Provide at least 3 well-supported reasons for your argument. Requirements: There are no minimum or maximum number of paragraphs. However, your essay must include the following: A thesis.
