Proposed Revision: EXAMPLE Purgatorio Preferred title for a part of Dante Alighieri’s Divina commedia in a compilation also comprising the part Paradiso Paradiso Preferred title for a part of Dante Alighieri’s Divina commedia in a compilation also comprising the part Purgatorio Gareth and Lynette Lancelot and Elaine The passing of Arthur Preferred titles for three parts of Alfred Tennyson’s Idylls of the King in a compilation comprised of Gareth and Lynette, Lancelot and Elaine, and The passing of Arthur Book 1 Preferred title for a part of Homer’s Iliad in a compilation also comprising book 6 Book 6 Preferred titles for a parts of Homer’s Iliad in a compilation also comprising book 1 comprised of books 1 and 6 Clean Copy: EXAMPLE Gareth and Lynette Lancelot and Elaine The passing of Arthur Preferred titles for three parts of Alfred Tennyson’s Idylls of the King in a compilation comprised of Gareth and Lynette, Lancelot and Elaine, and The passing of Arthur Book 1 Book 6 Preferred titles for parts of Homer’s Iliad in a compilation comprised of books 1 and 6 6.2.3.5, 1st and 3rd Example Proposed Revisions: 3 EXAMPLE The pPersonal history of David Copperfield Preferred title recorded as: David Copperfield Encyclopædia Britannica Films presents Historical America in song Preferred title recorded as: Historical America in song 2 towers The lLord of the rings. The two towers Authorized access point for a part of Tolkien’s The lord of the rings [2nd and 3rd examples omitted] 6.27.2.2, 2nd Example Box (under Exceptions): Summary of Revisions: Replacements for 3rd and 4th examples because they do not seem to be correct. See my comments below if you are interested in why they are wrong. KJ Comment on 3rd example: There is a reference book with the title Amphibian species of the world, which does not have any authors listed, so its authorized access point is just the preferred title. Duellman wrote Amphibian species of the world : additions and corrections as a supplement to that book, but since he is not the creator for Amphibian species of the world, I don’t see how this example can be constructed as though Duellman is the creator of the whole work Amphibian species of the world. KJ Comment on 4th example: This preferred title is in English, but Manet was French. LC has a policy statement to use an English title found in a reference source for works of art, but that is not an RDA policy so this example is not correct. Proposed Revision: EXAMPLE Goethe, Johann Wolfgang von, 1749–1832. Faust. 1. Theil Homer. Iliad. Book 1 Duellman, William Edward, 1930– . Amphibian species of the world.
