The product they produced most was? • Wheat The New York Colony • Founded by the Dutch in 1624 • In 1664, James, the Duke of York (the brother of King Charles II) , received control of New Netherland after driving the Dutch out. The name of the colony was changed to New York in honor of the Duke. • New York becomes a Proprietary Colony – owned by a single person the “Duke of York”. The New Jersey Colony • Established: 1664 by the Duke of York. • Founders: The Duke gave land to 2 loyal friends. George Carteret and John Berkeley. The Delaware Colony • Established: 1704 William Penn allows the lower three counties of Pennsylvania to create their own assembly. It eventually becomes its own colony, Delaware.
