Auditions for Voices of a People’s History of the United States are Wednesday, Sept 9th and Thursday, Sept 10th from 6-10 pm in Forbes room 1211. For auditions, be prepared to tell a 2-5 minute story/experience related to a social/political movement or idea that you are passionate about. Voices of a People’s History of the United States By: Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove Directed by: Rebecca Klein Voices will have two performances on October 10th, in Wayland Hall. The production will include selections from the book Voices of a People’s History of the United States, by Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove. Voices is a compilation of monologues adapted from the writings and speeches of American human rights activists. Note on Casting: An ensemble of twelve will be cast to perform the words of Frederick Douglass, Tecumseh, Harriet Hanson Robinson, Sojourner Truth, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Yuri Kochiyama, Camilo Mejia, Cindy Sheehan, Evann Orleck-Jetter, Philip Agnew, and Howard Zinn. When appropriate to the piece, actors may be cast in roles counter to their race, gender, and/or general appearance as a way to challenge who owns or is responsible for words, ideas, or causes. For this production, ethnically diverse casting is an artistic goal and a priority. Actors from all backgrounds are strongly encouraged to audition. Rehearsal Period: Voices will rehearse mainly on Saturdays and Sundays, with the possibility of added weeknight rehearsals. Each cast member can expect to have two individual rehearsals as well as a handful of full cast rehearsals.
