This curriculum is based on the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences program, UMMC School of HealthRelated Professions (www.umc.edu/shrp/). Incoming freshmen will be able to finish the pre-requisites at the
Oxford campus in two academic years (2+) with four full semesters. The second phase of the program takes
place on the UMMC campus in Jackson and consists of 2 years (5 semesters) of lecture, laboratory,
demonstration and clinical course work. Class size is limited and acceptance into the program is on a
competitive basis.

*Must have a minimum ACT Math sub score of 25 (SAT 580), or B minimum in MATH 125 (or higher), or B
minimum in CHEM 101, or B minimum in MATH 121 and MATH 123.
COURSE OPTIONS:
SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES: include courses such as anthropology, economics, political science, psychology or
sociology.
HUMANITIES AND FINE ARTS: include history, journalism, literature, modern languages, philosophy, religion, music (MUS
103), theatre (THEATRE 201), Dance (DANCE 200), or any art history. 3 hours of Fine Arts is recommended.
ELECTIVE: (recommended) Medical Terminology (ES 396), general chemistry (CHEM 105 & 115), physics (PHY 213 &
224), microbiology (BISC 210), advanced math, and computer sciences.
Note: CHEM 105 & 115, PHYS 213 &223 are recommended for the Nuclear Medicine Program that is offered to RS
students after they finish the program. This is an extra certification program that many students want to finish.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS:
UMMC School of Health Related Professions gives strong preference to legal residents of Mississippi. Out-ofstate applicants will be considered only if there are positions available after all qualified Mississippi applicants
are accepted.
In addition to the admissions standards of the institution and the general admission requirements of the
School of Health Related Professions, candidates seeking admission to the Radiologic Sciences program must:
1. Have completed a minimum of 57 semester hours of academic credit (exclusive of physical education,
military science, dogmatic religion, and vocational courses) from a regionally accredited institution of
higher learning;
2. Have a minimum of “C” or better on pre-requisite courses;
3. Have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale;
4. Submit ACT scores;
5. Have current CPR certification at the time of registration; and
6. Complete an interview.
** Students need to shadow professionals in the field. There is not a set amount of hours, just enough
hours to understand the profession.
APPLYING to the Radiologic Sciences Program:
Applications are accepted online only. Applications with all materials must be submitted by Feb. 15 of the
applying year. A $25 application fee and official transcripts must be submitted.
