SUMMARY:
The Employment Consultant 1 is the key provider of quality services to the customers of AtWork!. He/she is
responsible for ensuring clients have jobs that they love in the community and that their employers have the
assistance they need to train and maintain quality performance from their employees. This position assesses skills
and talents for clients on their caseload, develops and implements service plans, develops leads and contacts at
community businesses, and secures employment opportunities that are a match for both the clients and the
company. The EC 1 works at the job site with clients to help train both the client and the employer on effective
communication techniques, accommodations, and developing natural supports in the workplace. Additionally, the
Employment Consultant 1 coordinates with residential supports, families and funders to ensure employment
success.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of Position:
 Develop and implement personalized career plans for clients on caseload-based on client’s skills,
goals and interests.
 Maintain communication with clients and circle of support regarding progress on and outcomes of the
employment plan.
 Perform vocational Assessments to assess skills and interests of clients on caseload.
 Provide professional employment counseling and assistance to clients through the job identification,
interview, and new hire orientation process. As well as assist in training and maintaining of
employment.
 Market and job develop- for paid jobs for individuals with disabilities out in the community.
 Conduct evaluations of potential job sites. Assisting employers with customizing existing jobs to meet
the abilities of Clients. Write appropriate proposals.
 Attend and represent AtWork! at various networking events.
 Develop and maintain relationships with businesses in the community, other nonprofits, and funders.
 Meet with potential employers: determine needs of businesses, conditions of employment and
potential for employing AtWork! Clients.
 Find and secure employment opportunities for clients that match both the needs of the client and the
need of the business.
 Identify business leads for supported employment. Provide potential employer with information on
AtWork! services and capabilities of our Clients.
 Facilitate Client job starts. Coordinate supports with residential staff and families when necessary.
 Provide training and consultations to employers and co-workers to enable them to support the
supported employee.

Check with client and employer at regular intervals. Identify solutions to personnel issues and
implement them.
Identify opportunities for career growth with the employer and their supported employee. Facilitate
further training or coaching to assist both parties.
Develop ongoing positive relationships with key co-workers and Client at their place of employment.
Participate in bi-weekly AtWork! staff meetings. Provide input to other Employment Consultants and
volunteer to share responsibilities that contribute to the success of the team.
Conduct and/or participate in Client review sessions with representatives of involved agencies and
parent/advocates.
Develop and implement productive weekly schedule to assist assigned client caseload in maintaining
their employment or developing employment opportunities.
Disseminate information about community based employment to fellow providers, funders, employers,
consumers and their advocates.
Provide information for potential employers regarding what is involved in employing people with
disabilities including information about AtWork! and supported employment services.
Train the employer to support persons with disabilities at their worksite.
Establish natural supports for clients in the workplace and implement a fade schedule that gradually
reduces the need for job coaching/follow along services.
Document daily reports and case notes detailing client services, progress, incidents, challenges, etc.
Communicate progress, successes, and challenges to guardians/care providers.
Record billable hours in Employment Tracking System.
Conduct annual safety plans with client and employer.
Facilitate Person Centered Planning Process with client and their circle of support as needed.
Assist employers to identify and mitigate or eliminate architectural, procedural and attitudinal barriers
to employment of client.
Provide training and support, as needed, to client throughout the job development process.
Coordinate and/or provide effective individualized on-site job training for client.
Identify and address client's transportation needs.
Proactively enlist the support of supervisors and co-workers to maximally integrate the client into the
regular work routine of the business.
Support supervisors and co-workers in using techniques or approaches to ensure the effective
supervision, training and support of the client.
Provide follow-along support services to assist business personnel and the client.
Maintain an effective relationship with the employer that includes soliciting regular feedback about the
employment situation and addressing issues as they arise.
Advocate on behalf of clients.
Communicate regularly with the Senior Program Manager regarding issues that affect clients and/or
employers.
Coordinate with other professionals (doctors, counselors, others) as needed.
Maintain confidentiality.
Carry out additional responsibilities as identified and assigned by the Director of Employment
Services
Provide on-site job training and support to clients in their workplace regarding job duties, policies, and
procedures in collaboration with the employer.
Implement personalized training tasks for work environment as developed by the Employment
Consultant.
Troubleshoot problems that arise at community job sites and help employer and client to maintain a
positive working relationship.

Minimum qualifications for this position may be satisfied by a combination of education and experience as outlined in

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental
regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information
and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to give clear and concise
verbal instructions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to
compute rate, ratio, percent, to draw/interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to problem solve. Ability to take initiative and make decisions based upon company purpose, mission, and values and in
the best interest of clients and customers. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or
schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
 Valid Washington State Driver’s License
 Good driving record.
