Tuesday: September 8 , 2015
Morning Circle: We will be singing our good morning greeting song, adding the day to our calendar, talk
about the weather, Sing our ABC’s in sign language and complete attendance check-in. Each child will be
given the opportunity to spell their name and put their name on the Check-In board, then they will be
asked to show me a specific shape or color, and finally they will be given an opportunity to jump while we
clap and sing for them.

Handwriting Without Tears:
Warm Up – Rolling Playdough: Children love to roll dough snakes. This activity helps them build
strength in their fingers.
Wood Piece Play: Wood Piece Play has no entry requirements. Every child can play regardless of
readiness level. Wood Piece Play takes children from the very beginning to teach everything they need
for readiness and pre-writing. To children, it’s just play- but this is play that leads directly to school
readiness skills.
Book: Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb by Al Perkins
Small Group Circle Time: Today we will read Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb by Al Perkins and discuss our
fingers. How many do we have? What do we do with them?

Extension Activity: Math: Count Fingers
We will be counting our fingers and our friend’s fingers, singing finger play songs and counting in sign
language.

Music and Movement: Here is Thumbkin Finger Play

Recall: This is a large group setting where we will be answering a question or commenting on something
related to the day’s activities. Today’s question/comment will be Who, What, When, Where, and Why

Extension Activity: Science/Sensory: Magic Sand
Kinetic sand is a three-dimensional building toy that mimics the physical properties of wet sand. In
appearance it resembles light brown sugar. It can be molded, it sticks to itself but not to most other
materials or surfaces, and it does not dry out. The children will be able to freely play with it.
Music and Movement: 5 Little Ducks Finger Play

Recall: This is a large group setting where we will be answering a question or commenting on something
related to the day’s activities. Today’s question or comment will be testing the children’s memory and
story comprehension.

We will dip veggies into light ranch and fruits into a brown sugar and cream cheese mix. Our fingers will
be grasping our foods just as we would grasp a writing tool.
