Presidential Primaries Sample Social Media Content

We hope this document will help state and local Leagues utilize their social media channels around the presidential primaries as well as to promote voter registration and voter registration deadlines during the 2016 election season. Below, please find key hashtags and images you can use as well as draft social media content and suggested timing. Please tailor these messages to

fit the elections in your community. We hope to provide additional content and images guidance throughout the year.

In addition to sharing these messages, we encourage you to share any local media stories your

League has generated, including letters to the editor, press statements, press hits or op/eds as well as information about the voter registration events you’ll be hosting and where eligible citizens can find you to get registered. Don’t forget to take photos of your events and use those in your posts as well!

We’ve added #election2016 to these tweets, but don’t forget to also use local hashtags specific

to your state or community’s elections (#FITN, #IACaucus or #CAvotes, for example). We also encourage you to take advantage of popular hashtags like #TBT (throwback Thursday) or #OTD

(on this date). Hashtags are most successful on Twitter, and should be used sparingly on

Facebook.
