Jesus understood the
truths behind his teachings Questions for us
 Jesus Learned line upon line precept
upon precept. He Himself was an
effective learner (Luke 2:52).

 Everything that Christ taught could
be easily traced back to a doctrine.
This made it clear why He was
teaching it.

understanding and knowledge and
then we could teach (D&C 11:21).
 Christ was not satisfied with His
students acquisition of superficial
knowledge. He meant what He
taught to penetrate deeply (Psalm
51:6).

am teaching?
Do I seek out more
information about the things
that I teach?
Do I come to lessons
prepared?
Do I teach only facts or do I
teach the underlying
principles that govern those
facts?
Do I seek the guidance of the
spirit in what and how I
teach?
Love was behind every
form of teaching.
Questions for us?
 He taught that the first two
 Why do I want to teach?
great commandments were to
love God and His children. He
taught with these ends in
mind.
 His love demonstrated his pure
intentions.
 With his motivations
understood by himself and
others his teachings had
maximum impact.
 He loved his students enough
to correct them .
 Why do I want my
students to succeed?
 What keeps me working
with someone when it is
difficult?
 Who or what does my
teaching show that I love?
 Do I pray for those I teach?
In his teaching Christ
gave of himself
 Christ lived and died for
those He taught. By this He
demonstrated that He chose
to invest Himself personally
in their lives (Alma 7:12-14).
 He did not his “own will but
the will of Him that sent
[Him]” on behalf of, us, His
learners (John 6:38-39).
 He took personal time to
individually touch his pupils
lives.
Questions for us
 What do I give of myself
to my students?
 Could I, like Jesus,
substitute “sacrifice for”
in the place of “love” in
the statement I Love
you?
 Do I spend time with,
think about, and prepare
for my students?
He demonstrated all
teachings by actions
 He not only taught to assist
the poor and needy, He
went to them (Luke 4:18).
 He was the perfect example
of love and consideration
(3nephi 12:48).
 He taught men to act and
did so Himself (3 Nephi
19:17-25).
Questions for us?
 Do I seek to still expand
my understanding and
knowledge?
 Do I apply and practice
what I teach, even if no
one is there to see?
 Do I look for ways to
show my students
instead of just telling
them?
Christ understood the
key role of participation

did not push them. He was a
shepherd, not a sheep herder
(1Nephi 22:25).
 He asked meaningful
questions that invited
pondering and response
(Example Matt 16:26-27).
 He addressed and taught the
individual, not just the group.
This allowed them to
personally invest in what He
taught.

 Do I ask thought provoking
questions that help my
student learn how to apply
what I am teaching?
 Do I try to engage those
students who struggle to
participate?
 Do I know my students and
their names?
Christ illustrated what he
taught in a relatable way
 He used common
examples from the
everyday life of His
learners to teach them
principles and truths.
 He asked hypothetical
questions that helped His
learners see themselves in
new ways.
 He teaches men according
to their own “language,
unto their understanding”
(2Nephi 31:3).
Questions for us
 Do I use vocabulary and
language that is easy to be
understood by those I
teach? Or do I say things
that will make me look
intelligent?
 Do I help students connect
the dots of what we are
learning with its
relationship to their lives?
 Do I invite students to
apply the precepts we are
learning to their lives?
What were the results of
Christ’s teaching?

When he taught he lifted others

He Inspired further learning (2

Even though he was the master
teacher not everyone chose to
