www.fau.edu/si
The SI Coordinator for FAU’s Center for Learning And Student Success is responsible for all
Supplemental Instruction (SI) policies and program management. SI leaders are considered
Center for Learning And Student Success (CLASS) employees who report to the SI Coordinator.
The SI Coordinator, with the help of CLASS staff members, will help facilitate, supervise,
instruct, and mentor SI Leaders. As such, the SI Leaders can go to either the CLASS staff or SI
Coordinator for any support or assistance.
Training Responsibilities
 All SI leaders are required to attend training prior to the start of the semester.
 All SI Leaders must participate in any on-going training(s) and peer observations.
 Backboard modules must be completed every two weeks. Failure to complete a module
in the timeframe allotted will delay pay. Continued failure to complete training modules
may result in termination from the SI Leader position.
Class Responsibilities
 Attend and be a model student during all class meetings as assigned, take notes, complete
homework (if needed), and read all assigned materials.
 Sit in a different seat for each class meeting (unless this practice is not allowed by the
instructor of the class).
 Make weekly announcements in class (or at the frequency allowed by your faculty
member).
 Post information on the blackboard/dry erase board at the beginning of each class about
upcoming SI session(s).
 Provide promotional items such as flyers or handouts to students a minimum of 4 times
throughout the semester (16 week course).
 Solicit input from your faculty member with the creation of worksheets and handouts for
students.
 Email students at least once per week with an outline of what is going on in SI.
o Copy anevin@fau.edu to every correspondence to your class(es).
 SI Leaders who miss class for extenuating circumstances (illness, death in family) MUST
contact the SI office IN WRITING – preferably before the class absence, but no later than
24 hours following the absence. “Class checks” will be made throughout the semester to
verify SI leader attendance, punctuality and professionalism.
SI Session Responsibilities
 Conduct at least three one-hour study sessions each week (specific required number of
sessions as delineated on your offer letter). No sessions will be held on University
holidays. The SI Leader has the discretion to make-up the session or not.
 Prepare for SI sessions by reading required material, working problems when applicable,
creating handouts, and organizing course material.
 Provide handouts weekly during SI sessions, including review sheets, pre-tests and posttests, worksheets, and bookmarks. Submit copies of all materials to the Center for
Learning And Student Success (CLASS) the week they were distributed. These MUST be
submitted in order to complete your assigned duties and earn your paycheck.

(log-off of the computers, push in chairs, wipe down tables, etc.)
Once SI sessions and Office Hours are established, the schedule must be followed with
these exceptions.

termination of the SI position.
 Each SI Leader will be allowed to reschedule 2 sessions per semester for personal
reasons with advance notice and approval (at least 7 days).

 A two-week notice is requested prior to resigning as an SI leader.
 Time sheets must be completed and turned in to the Center for Learning And Student
Success (CLASS) by 2pm on every other Wednesday as indicated on the pay period
