Fanfares When we learnt about fanfares we looked at how to read the notes of the treble clef in terms of pitch and rhythm. Pitch: For the notes on the lines remember the following: Every Good Boy Deserves Football For the notes in the spaces remember the following: They spell the word FACE These notes sit BELOW the stave. The treble clef Rhythm: Crotchet = 1 beat Quavers – ½ beat each Semiquavers = ¼ beat each Minim = 2 beats Semibreve = 4 beats Fanfares often use the following: Brass and Percussion play the majority of Fanfares The melody is mainly disjunct The dynamics are mainly forte (loud) The melody is composed of mainly broken chords Trumpets, Trombones, French horns and Timpani are common Fanfare instruments 3. The Baroque Period Music of the Baroque Period often has the following features: Ground Bass – a bass line that repeats throughout the piece Ostinato – a repeated musical pattern Ritornello Form – A musical structure where the same melody repeats throughout a piece, separated by contrasting melodies. Homophonic – A musical structure where there is melody and an accompaniment Harpsichord – A keyboard instrument that preceded the piano A cello – a low pitched string instrument which uses a bow A Violin – a high pitched string instrument which uses a bow A lute – A string instrument which is strummed and can play chords 4. Folk Music Folk music is played by acoustic instruments and is often specific to a place, town, region or country.
