Ivy Endowment, Incorporated and Alpha Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated High School Application Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University. It is the first Greek letter organization established by African American college women. The Sorority is an international organization with over 200,000 college-educated members around the world. Throughout the history of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, one of its national programs has always been to give scholarships, financial assistance and moral support to worthy young women who wish to attend a college or university and who will use their acquired knowledge and education to be of service to their race and to all mankind. Alpha Mu Omega, a local chapter, has always supported this national program. Ivy Endowment, Inc., a 501 © (3) entity, serves as the scholarship arm of the local chapter. Each year, young women from the senior classes of Central Indiana high schools are selected for the scholarship awards. Scholarship Criteria: The scholarship is open to African American female seniors enrolled in accredited high school in Central Indiana. To be considered for a scholarship the student must have at least a minimum cumulative grade point average of C+ (2.5) or higher on a 4.0 grading scale. Applicants not receiving a $1,000 scholarship may be considered for a $500 book award if funds are available. To apply for the scholarship the student must: 1. Complete the application via http://akaamo.org/ivyendowment.php* 2. Upload a current official transcript indicating G.P.A. (Must be mailed to address provided below.) 3. Upload 2 letters of recommendations. One must be from an educator who has knowledge of you as a student. The second letter may be from an employer, community leader, minister or someone who can attest to your character and any significant achievements. You are permitted to upload a scanned letter of recommendation. However, recommendation letters must be signed along with contact information provided within the body of letter. 4. Upload a personal essay, “Why I should be selected for an Ivy Endowment Scholarship,” not to exceed two pages. Include in this essay, factual information about you, your family, your educational and career goals and how will receiving this scholarship help you to achieve them. 5. If selected as a semi-finalist participant, you will be asked to participate in an in-person interview (to be scheduled). 6.
