Common Core- Daily Skill Practice
Reading BlockReview high frequency words- using flashcards/word wall
(Pg. 98-99 teachers edition)Sharing Literature- I will read aloud “Cool Ali”
Introduce Phonics: Vowel Digraphs: -es (f to v); suffixes –ful, -less
Introduce Vocabulary words and meanings
Introduce Spelling words- give oral pretest
Send home list of spelling words and vocabulary words for the week.
Homework: Alphabetize spelling words.
Tuesday:
Common Core- Daily Skill Practice
ReadingWarm up with the Morning Message. As we write the message we will work on punctuation,
misspelled words, and capital letters. We will then read the message together.
Review high frequency words- flash cards/word wall etc…
Review story information- genre, author, illustrator, and students matched vocabulary words
with definitions.
Phonics: -es (f to v) –ful, -less
Practice Book pg. 27 & 28
Review Spelling Words
Read “Cool Ali” whole group.
Spelling Book. Pg. 67
Homework: Students will write their spelling words in complete sentences.
Wednesday:
Common Core- Daily Skill Practice
Reading
Warm up with the Morning Message. As we write the message we will work on punctuation,
misspelled words, and capital letters. We will then read the message together.
Spelling Bee
Students are asked to study for pretest
Review high frequency words- using flash cards/word wall
Discuss antonyms
Sharing Literature- Reread “Cool Ali” whole group; answer questions throughout the story for
understanding.
Review Spelling words- State the generalization, review words with -f and –v
Practice book-Vocabulary
Review vocabulary words from story-students will match words to definition on word strip.
Thursday:
Warm up with the Morning Message. As we write the message we will work on punctuation,
misspelled words, and capital letters. We will then read the message together.
Review high frequency words- using flash cards/word wall
Review antonyms-ask students to give examples.
Spelling pretest; any student who receives 100% or an A will be excused from taking the test,
tomorrow.
