Synopsis
LIPSTICK...a symbol of womanhood! Like varied colors and textures in a
lipstick; whether shimmery, matte, glossy or sheer - every woman is
unique and special in her very own way. Hence, we bring you a new age
Bharathanatyam recital imagineered with passion to celebrate the beauty
of womanhood. In ancient cultures, women were revered as the
embodiment of the Goddess in all her glory. However today, the exalted
fairer sexes have been insulted through wretchedness of humanity. Day in
day out, we hear and read about domestic violence, rape, gender
inequality, female infanticide, exploitation, and all sorts of maltreatments
on women regardless of age and creed. There are so many women around
us who have been tortured, some suffering in silence and the worst; dead
in horrific manner. LIPSTICK features a series of production centered on
Women; with each production highlighting on a chosen social issue and
other aspects of womanhood. Adherence to the traditional
Bharathanatyam, LIPSTICK incorporates various music genres of Malaysia
and advanced visual projections; giving it a fresh and innovative appeal to
birth a new age concept. Get immersed in a truly alluring Malaysian
LIPSTICK!

Synopsis
Love and the romance of love is so pervasive in our lives that we wonder when this phenomenon first
descended upon us. How did this concept in all its myriad expressions become embedded so obsessively
in our psyche? Since when and how did desire and eroticism become a source of poetic inspiration and
was able to capture the full gamut of the artists’ imagination -- enriching myth, literature, visual and
performing arts the world over?
In India, romantic love in its sublimated form took a definite turn with the bhakti (devotion) movement when
God himself was entwined and conceived as the supreme object of love. As the ultimate Universal Lover,
He becomes the paramount object of devotion -- and of romantic love. Saint poets expressed their spiritual
outpourings in the form of erotico-mystical poetry which became ‘viral’ as they resonated with the sentiment
of the common folk. Love poems to gods became popular and were incorporated in the rituals of worship.
To speak of Krishna in Odisha, is to speak of the most familiar and beloved of the Hindu Gods. For
centuries, the spirit of Krishna has permeated the very fabric of life of the Oriyan people. Krishna is real; He
is as pervasive as he is experiential.
For the people of Odisha, Krishna is ‘felt’ in their daily chores and activities. He is God incarnate and as
such, he is beyond good or bad. But closer home, he is Love personified and as such, he transcends moral
ethics and judgment. This passionate love that he inspires provides his devotees their focus and reason for
being.
For the people of Odisha, this personalized God is Krishna, an incarnation of Vishnu who was incarnated in
human form to restore Dharma (Righteous Order of conduct). More interestingly, Krishna as a personalized
God now represents a potent metaphor and focus of romantic love, sublimated but remaining earthy and
erotic, as it is spiritual and mystical.
It is not Krishna, Hero and Counselor of the Mahabharata, nor Krishna, the Prince who killed the demon
Kamsa with whom the masses of Odisha identifies. It is Krishna the Pastoral Cowherd -- born dark as the
rain cloud and with eyes like lotus, clad in yellow vest, wearing a crown of peacock feathers -- who is Lover
of the gopis whom the people adore. With Radha, his pastoral milkmaid consort, the Krishna-Radha idyll
has become the all-time symbol of romantic love at its sublimated best.
The moods, feelings and emotions of this love-affair, and embodiment of Rasa (highest emotional state)
become a sublime allegory expressing and affirming the highest love the individual soul has -- for God.
Of all the gods, Krishna is unsurpassed as the God-Lover whom all women can adore and can direct their
desires, without restraint and limit. In this manner, Love is able to transcend many levels and is ‘reconceived’ and ‘re-invented’ to accommodate our real, imagined and fantasised desires.
