Subject: How to Make an Easy A on IP2 Below are assignment instructions for Unit 2 IP. We will be covering Unit 2 IP in this week’s chats. Please see the attached model response. If your Unit 2 IP looks exactly like the one attached, you should make an easy A. As I mentioned in this week's Chat #1, you must do the DB first. David Dtaylor23@aiuonline.edu ATTACHMENT: Unit 2 IP Model Response Unit 2 IP Instructions During this unit (Unit 2) you will begin a research paper. You may continue with the topic you wrote about in Unit 1 or you may choose a new topic. For this IP2, you must find five (5) sources from the AIU library related to your topic. Finally, you write a preliminary thesis and outline for your research paper after reading your sources. Submit your sources, thesis and outline at the end of Unit 2. Submit the research paper in its final form at the end of Unit 3. Regardless of the topic that you choose, you should write an argument paper (McWhorter, Chapter 17, p. 589). For an argument paper, your thesis must state your opinion about some aspect of this topic. After stating your opinion in your thesis (usually the last sentence of the introduction), the remainder of your paper should present at least three main points to defend your opinion. These main points must be supported by experts found in the AIU library as well as your own judgments and experience. DUE FOR UNIT 2 IP: Sentence outline (thesis statement + 3 topic sentences) for your research paper 1-2 paragraphs discussing why you chose this topic A list of 5 articles (in APA citation style) from the AIU library to support your position on your topic IMPORTANT NOTE: To format your citations in APA style, please use the Bedford Bibliographer, which can be found at: http://bcs.bedfordstmartins.com/rewriting/rcBB.html In addition, here are two videos which teach you how to use the Bedford Bibliographer: http://polaris.umuc.edu/ewc/ewc-p1/ewc-p1.html http://polaris.umuc.edu/ewc/ewc-p2/ewc-p2.html Sample Sentence Outline: Topic: Gun control laws Thesis: Stricter gun control laws will not reduce crime any better than current gun control laws. Body paragraph topic sentence (1) First, stricter gun control laws will not reduce crime because current gun control laws are not effectively enforced. Body paragraph topic sentence (2) Second, stricter gun control laws will not reduce crime because gun control eliminates our right of self-defense, leaving the public vulnerable to other types of crime. Body paragraph topic sentence (3) Third, stricter gun control laws will not reduce crime because these laws do not target the real causes of gun violence: the criminal nature of the people who carry out these acts of violence.
