Dear Families, Week of November 25th Accelerated Reader: Good News! Almost all the students made their goal this past Friday. Please encourage your reader to keep striving for the finish line. Accelerated Math: The students are still allowed to come in early on Friday. There will be no early AM time this week due to late start Wednesday and Thanksgiving break. If your child is coming in early, please pack an extra snack to avoid mid-morning hunger. Spelling: We will not have spelling or vocabulary this week. Reading: We will finish our Titanic book this week. The students have really enjoyed this book. I love reading with them. After Thanksgiving break we will cycle back into Nonfiction reading. We will use our reading books a bit and use some of our National Geographic magazines for a refresher on nonfiction text features and strategy lessons. The students currently have a short reading log out that is due Monday, December 2nd. Writing: At the conclusion of our Titanic novel we will have one more response to literature writing assessment. I loved reading the student’s letters from George to Papa and I can’t wait to see what they come up with this time around. Indiana History: Our first part of the unit has wrapped up. The students have a test on Wednesday. The test will cover the study guide from lesson one and two and all the vocabulary words from the first two lessons. Up next in Indiana history will be an in class artifact project and legend writing. Language: After break we will begin our Fake Literacy Family Project. This project is going to be a blast. The students will create nine fake family members and incorporate them into a family album. Their family members will showcase a figurative language term. More directions will be coming soon! Field Trip: Don’t forget we leave for the Museum of Science and Industry on Tuesday. I will be sending home a reminder note in the agenda books tomorrow. This week is going to fly by! I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy the time off with all your loved ones! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
