JOB PURPOSE
Role and Context








To design, implement and maintain a secure and available networking environment enabling
SITA UK to achieve its strategic goals. This requires an understanding of SITA UK’s business
strategy for growth and acquisition to ensure that the network environment is an enabler rather
than a constraint
Working alongside colleagues in MIS to provide networking expertise for strategic plans, day-today operations and project work, offering pan-departmental knowledge of implications of data
requirements of/for other activities.
To provide 2nd and 3rd level technical input & ownership for problem and incident resolution of all
data and voice technologies deployed.
Based in Maidenhead, working within the Unified Networks Team. Shift pattern rota is a part of
this role.
Will be expected to cross train to basic level in Data centre and security skills and be able to act
as temporary cover for team SMEs and also enhance own network incident resolution skills
Will be expected to build and manage the network budget
To build and manage relationships with key providers of networking solutions to SITA UK
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES









Development, documentation and delivery of core networking and communication standards and
technologies used in SITA UK
Define the standards for providing cost-effective data provisioning with capacity and resilience to
meet changing operational requirements with minimum intervention and manage an operational
network to deliver these
Maintain current and expert knowledge of technical advances in networking solutions to provide a
sound technical network foundation for SITA UK’s future network service requirements
Set MIS SLAs pertaining to Network and Data Centre Targets are met and exceeded
Provision of technical input to rapid and complex problem and incident resolution
Delivery to time, quality and budget technical network input to project work, through matrix
reporting to MIS Project Managers
MIS monitoring and reporting of Unified Networks Team objectives
Develop networking knowledge within Unified Networks Team through coaching and mentoring
techniques
Full understanding of all technologies utilised and deployed within SITA UK

Drive internal efficiencies through the use of automation and process reengineering
Driving and input to the strategic planning for data and voice systems for SITA UK
Develop and maintain relationships internal and external in new networking technologies and
principles
Design and implement networking foundations to meet capacity and availability thresholds and
potential breaches mitigated with minimum business impact
Ensure all audit compliant targets for networks are met, or compensating control and mitigation
plans available to be submitted to external auditors and SUEZ risk management teams
Full participation in a culture of continuous improvement that is considered ‘business as usual’
throughout the team
Customer focused and driven to provide the best service possible

GENERAL CRITERIA (ESSENTIAL & DESIRABLE)
KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING/SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
CISCO qualified or studying: CCNA Minimum with a good knowledge of fault
diagnosis and analysis for Cisco hardware: routers, switches etc.
Degree level education and or minimum of one years experience in network
design and operations.
A good level of understanding of communication protocols, in particular IP (over
LANs and WANs)
Knowledge of MPLS, DSL, WifFi and emerging connectivity technologies.

Up to date knowledge of all SITA shrink wrapping applications: (MS Office,
Lotus Notes etc.) and their network implications
Sound fundamentals on cabling technologies: patching, attenuation, cable
specs, etc.
Understanding of the use of Citrix and its network impact

Ability to communicate clearly both with technical staff and non-technical
customers, ranging from temps to MD
ITIL understanding / foundation level

Can build personal networks for information on solving problems, both internally
and externally including pan Suez
High quality written and verbal communication/presentation skills

Understand the current and emerging security threats associated with
networking technologies and play an integral part in reducing any exposure
