Project Description: You work for HopperNet as a Network Technician assigned to a design team. Your design team has worked together two years designing networks for clients. afa A client, Acme Corporation, needs a wireless network for its corporate offices. You have been asked to design a wireless network that will allow Acme Corporation’s employees to move throughout the building while remaining continuously connected via their devices. Your team is competing against several other networking companies for the Acme Corporation’s job. afa Research, design, evaluate and communicate a proposal for a wireless network for Acme Corporation. Steps in the design process may include researching various wireless standards. Given the physical layout, determine coverage area within the building. The final written bid will be delivered to Acme Corporation. The final bid will include: • a hardware list • mapped wireless access point (physical topology) • performance expectations including fault tolerance • total cost (including installation costs) • justification for the design No Dead Zones: Advisory response • teams composed of 3-4 students because of the group dynamics • clean presentation important: employees good need public speaking skills • to whom it would be made: the CEO or technical personnel? • Other considerations: • network scalability (anticipating technology changes in next 10 years) • physical barriers (steel racks, secure rooms) • temperature or weather variations (accessing network outside on the loading dock as trucks arrive) • some wireless devices necessitate FCC licensing • access to electricity for hardware • securing the network No Dead Zones: Ready to try… No Dead Zones: Ready to try… No Dead Zones: So over the summer…. http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/business/Agriculture/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair/2014/07/26/Fairgoers-still-seeking-strong-wi-fisignals.print No Dead Zones: So over the summer…. http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/business/Agriculture/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair/2014/07/26/Fairgoers-still-seeking-strong-wi-fisignals.print No Dead Zones: So over the summer…. http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/business/Agriculture/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair/2014/07/26/Fairgoers-still-seeking-strong-wi-fisignals.print No Dead Zones: So over the summer…. http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/business/Agriculture/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair/2014/08/14/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair-will-consider-spending-thousands-to-fix-wifi-issues.print No Dead Zones: So over the summer…. http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/business/Agriculture/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair/2014/08/14/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair-will-consider-spending-thousands-to-fix-wifi-issues.print No Dead Zones: Elkhart 4-H Fair • 2nd largest 4-H fair in the country • 4th largest attendance event in Indiana No Dead Zones: What they shared • Attendance stats - correlated to weather records No Dead Zones: Aerial shots No Dead Zones: Aerial shots No Dead Zones: Access Points No Dead Zones: What we used • Google maps • To provide scale • Personal experience • Who’s been there? • Internet research No Dead Zones: Discussions No Dead Zones: Technology used • Google Docs • Shared folders No Dead Zones: A.M.’s Report No Dead Zones: P.M.’s Report No Dead Zones: The Reporter http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/schools/2014/10/09/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair-Internet-connection-Wi-Fi-subject-of-Elkhart-Area-Career-Center-students-case-study.print No Dead Zones: The Reporter http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/schools/2014/10/09/Elkhart-County-4-H-Fair-Internet-connection-Wi-Fi-subject-of-Elkhart-Area-Career-Center-students-case-study.print No Dead Zones: Cisco Net Acad No Dead Zones: What I Learned… • Time management: • Keeping on track • Focusing on relevant issues • Group dynamics: • Sharing workload No Dead Zones: Next time! • Benchmarks to be met • Presentation to advisory members No Dead Zones: What’s next? • New PBL: No Dead Zones: Resources For more information, visit: elkhart.k12.in.us/EACC/tctw Gl;kd;f Contact: bhall@elkhart.k12.in.us
