Ch. 18: Psychological Disorders Project Guidelines
For chapter 18, Psychological Disorders, we will be doing a project based unit. The project will be worth
40 points and the rubric is described below.
You and a partner will select a disorder from a list that will be provided, or, pending teacher approval
you may select a disorder that is not on the list. You will research the disorder and create a presentation
for the class that will teach us about the disorder. The typical length of your presentation should be 5 –
10 minutes and can be presented in a variety of methods, also described below.
Areas that should in included in your project include, but are not limited to:
-
Possible causes of the disorder – many disorders have no known cause
Who the disorder commonly affects – age, gender, race, etc.
Where is the disorder most prevalent - in which countries
Treatments for the disorder today – early treatments as well
Symptoms, actions, behaviors of those with the disorder
Percentage of people with the disorder
When was the disorder first diagnosed
Anything else you think is important for understanding the disorder
You may present in a number of ways. If you would like to act out the disorder (tastefully rather than
comedically) via a skit, that would be fine. A PowerPoint or poster board type presentation is also fine.
A recorded presentation is fine too.
This is your project so I do not wish to limit you with too many guidelines. Creativity is king!
The grade breakdown is as follows:
Research and accuracy – 10 points
Poster/PowerPoint/video – 10 points
Time (5 – 10 minutes) – 5 points
Eye contact/voice – 5 points
Ready to present on assigned day – 5 points
Sources – 5 points
You are encouraged to provide as much accurate information as possible. If it is interesting to you, it
will likely be interesting to the class. Humor is good, but it must be tasteful. We do not want to belittle
any of these disorders and especially anyone afflicted with one of these disorders.
