interested or working in the vegetable growing industry. It
is primarily focused on a range of core knowledge and
skills required to work with plants and understand how
they work.

Course Qualification:
Upon successful completion of this qualification you will be
awarded with the Certificate in Horticulture Industry
Practice (Level 3).
Course Delivery:
Delivery is a combination of theory and practical, with
additional work to be completed at home or in the
workplace. In addition to classroom learning, all students
will have access to a shared on-line learning site.

21555 Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify weeds, and the ways they survive
and spread; and describe methods of weed prevention and control, and the relationship between weed control
and plant life cycles.
27213 Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify and interpret information for an
agrichemical product; describe the routes of entry of agrichemicals into the body when being used, types of
agrichemical poisoning, and the role of respirators; describe safety procedures when working with
agrichemicals; and identify the symptoms and first aid management of agrichemical poisoning sourced from
safety data sheets.
27215 Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare and apply agrichemicals using hand
held equipment; and dispose of surplus mix, decontaminate, clean and store equipment, and complete
documentation.
23783 Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify parts of seeds and germinated
seeds; sow and germinate seeds in containers; maintain and prick out seedlings; grow and maintain plants in
containers; and keep a diary record of the growth of plants from sowing of seeds to the growing on stage.
20560 Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare for potting or pricking out plants;
prick out, pot up or pot on nursery crops; and grow-on container nursery crops.
4 Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify the range of tools and equipment used
in horticulture; sharpen three hand tools using files, oilstones or grindstones, and electric bench grinders; and
check and service two stroke and four stroke small engines used in horticulture.
27208 Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to identify a range of plant pests, diseases and
disorders based on their signs and symptoms, describe the life cycles of plant pests and plant diseases and the
environmental factors that contribute to disease opportunity and describe plant pest, plant disease and plant
disorder prevention and control methods relevant to a specified primary sector and precautions for their use.
27215 Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare and apply agrichemicals using hand
