Values Commitment Steering Team Meeting Minutes 2/12/16 In Attendance: Jesus Alfonzo, Christopher Bell, Giovanni Fernandez, Savannah-Jane Griffin, Colleen Price, Beth Paul, Wendy Libby The Values Commitment Steering Team (VCST) met with President Libby and Provost Paul to give updates on what the VCST have been working on. Before we began giving updates President Libby shared what the vision and purpose of the VCST is, which is to serve as a university representative that puts the University Values first. Members of the VCST should listen to the Stetson Community and address and raise awareness to areas in which the university can grow and truly live out our values. SHIFTING PRIORITIES/GOALS Global Citizenship: The Global Citizenship Team is focusing on ways to make study abroad more accessible and affordable for all of our students. We will be inviting a team of individuals to discuss ways in which we can make this happen, the individuals include: Paula Hentz, Rosalie Richards, Rick Tyson, Sue Merchant o An example that Dr. Libby gave was of Catty College where they took the entire first year class to study abroad for a week Personal Growth: There is a health and wellness program coming out of the new health insurance company and human resources for employees of Stetson University that include incentive programs. o Dr. Libby shared the concerns that have come out of the faculty list serve about the new health insurance company. Follow-up with Facilities (Al Allen) about the refillable water filtration systems installed on campus They are working on bringing a Dietitian to campus as a resource for students. o Dr. Paul mentioned to connect with the Florida Hospital or UCF doctoral Program to see if there are any students that need practicum hours that could support our students. Intellectual Growth: Cultural credit Task Force met on February 11th, there was concern that submitting any proposal to the Faculty Senate on Cultural Credit would not pass at this time, so the Task Force focused on processes that are changeable without having to take it through the faculty senate for a vote. Dr. Paul and Dr. Libby said that we must move a One Stetson Cultural Credit Proposal forward. They recommended the Cultural Credit Task Force meet with Stuart Michaelson and Patrick Coggins. They also said they would put Cultural Credit on the agenda for the next Faculty Senate Leadership Team Meeting. Discussed focusing on Diversity and Inclusion initiatives that are taking place and supporting the efforts of the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force as well as marketing the climate survey that was released on February 2nd. We also discussed our committee supporting faculty professional development around diversity and inclusion teaching practices. Values Day Planning: Senator Anyang Nyong’o of Kenya has been selected as the Key Note Speaker for Values Day taking place September 20th, 2016.
