Some Friendly Advice from HED’s
Own Graduate Assistants – Gaelle
and Lynn
Can you please tell us about your role in the office?
I suppose I am the “gate keeper.” I can help you with

Cathy & Dawn (Tim keeps his own calendar.)
How long have you worked at SU?
I have worked at the university for 9 years and all in the
School of Education.
How do you spend your free time?
When I’m not shucking my kids to sports practices and
games, I am an author. I write teen fiction and adult
mysteries. That is my true passion. With two teen boys
and a pre-teen daughter, I’ve got plenty of material!!
What advice can you give to folks new in town about
getting through a Syracuse winter?
I am a native New Yorker. Syracuse gets a bad rap all
the time for the snow. Boots with a good tread, scarf,
hat, and hood are a requirement. Oh, and a sense of
humor helps, too!
What should our students know about you that really
irks you at work?
HaHa. This is funny. I do not get irked.
Seriously, I’m super easy going. If I have to
say something it would be to keep your
contact information updated. We use
listservs A LOT. If you change email
addresses or have a preferred email, let me
know.

You have met many students, any advice
for our incoming student as they start their
graduate work?
From my experience, faculty give plenty of
time for their assignments. Turn them in on
time. It makes everyone’s life a lot easier. I
know there are times when circumstances
will apply, but communication is key. If you
are having problems with blackboard and
something is due…when in doubt email it to
me. I will make sure it gets to the instructor.
You do not want to be known as the student
who is consistently late. That goes for your
appointments, too. No one’s time is more
important than anyone else’s. Again, when
