Math U See Algebra
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
In this Algebra course, the student will utilize Math U See Algebra to cover the standard Algebra topics, including: fractions, decimals, negative numbers, geometric concepts, algebraic equations, dealing with x, combining x's, freeing x's, x's on both sides, fractions with x's, slope-intercept, order of operations, powers, scientific notation, graphing, inequalities, and more.
LEARNING MATERIALS:
Main Curriculum:
Math U See Algebra 1 student work book
Math U See algebra 1 DVD with lesson-by-lesson video instruction
Math U See algebra 1 instruction manual
(All Math U See authored by Steven Demme, published by Math U See)
GOALS:
M1.1.C Solve problems that can be represented by a system of two linear equations or inequalities.
M1.2.C Evaluate f(x) at a (i.e., f(a)) and solve for x in the equation f(x) = b.
M1.3.A Write and solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable.
M1.3.C Identify and interpret the slope and intercepts of a linear function, including equations for parallel and perpendicular lines.
M1.3.H Determine the equation of a line in the coordinate plane that is described geometrically, including a line through two given points, a line through a given point parallel to a given line, and a line through a given point perpendicular to a given line.
8.EE.5 Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways.
8.EE.8 Analyze and solve pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
The student will complete 3-4 lessons (units) per month, per the timeline below. Each lesson consists of video instruction, 3 practice worksheets on new material, 3 systematic review worksheets, an activity page (optional), and a test. There is a unit test after every 7 lessons and a final test at the end.
