Job purpose
To provide a reliable and effective housekeeping and laundry service at the
Llandudno centre
Dimensions
The post holder is responsible for their own workload as distributed by the
Housekeeping Supervisor and works in co-operation with other colleagues to provide an effective housekeeping service at the Llandudno centre.
Responsible for ensuring the appropriate personal protective equipment is used and duties are carried out in accordance with departmental procedures and policies such as COSHH, Health and Safety and Infection Control to provide a high standard of cleanliness.
Main accountabilities of the post
1. Undertake daily cleaning and deep cleaning tasks within all rooms at the centre including public areas, toilets and the dog spending area as instructed by the Housekeeping Supervisor or Facilities Manager.
2. Undertake laundry tasks and operate all laundry equipment in line with manufacturers operating guidelines and housekeeping procedures to ensure linen and personal clothing belonging to members, other beneficiaries and the
Charity is laundered to the highest standards.
3. Ensure passageways are always free from obstructions when cleaning communal areas for the safety of members and other beneficiaries.
4. Ensure all paperwork is completed and kept up to date; including various checklists and logs regarding laundry items to ensure best practice is followed.
5. Clear, clean and set up function rooms according to the Housekeeping
Supervisor or Facilities Managers instructions to ensure rooms are ready, cleaned and prepared to the expected high standards.
6. Dispose of waste and recycling materials such as cardboard, glass, paper, plastic and cans in line with housekeeping procedures to ensure refuse is disposed of responsibly and to assist with environmental sustainability.
Additional responsibilities
1. Attend in-house and relevant external training courses, as agreed with line manager.
2. Practice and comply with all aspects of Health and Safety at Work etc Act
1974 and the Charity’s current Health and Safety policies.
3. Undertake any reasonable tasks from time to time at the line manager’s request, as may be deemed appropriate within the scope of the post.
Work context
1. The work undertaken is physically demanding when cleaning bedrooms and communal areas at Llandudno and can involve dealing with bodily fluids.
2. When working in the laundry the work environment can become very hot at times.
3. The post holder is required to use chemicals and cleaning products on a daily basis and should do so in accordance with COSHH
4. There can be an emotional aspect associated with the post if a resident Blind
Veterans UK member who the post holder interacts with on a regular basis becomes upset or unwell.
Autonomy and decision making
1. The post holder predominantly works under the supervision of the
Housekeeping Supervisor who allocates work and personal protective equipment in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
2. The post holder will make some daily decisions when carrying out their duties such as planning how they will undertake the work allocated to them.
Communications
Internal:
Members and other beneficiaries regularly, regarding issues such as faulty items and preferred times of service or special requests such as extra towels or consumables.
Maintenance Technician regularly regarding items requiring repair or replacement.
Reception and the booking department regarding room bookings
Care Department regularly regarding any resident needs or issues such as organising a specific time to service rooms.
Transport Department regularly regarding transportation of laundry cleaning (if the laundry fails)
External:
Laundry equipment engineers regularly regarding faults with or the breakdown of laundry equipment.
Procurement in Brighton in regard to any consumable orders and deliveries
Main areas of difficulty
Dealing with requests for extra items or specific times for rooms to be serviced or the way in which the rooms are to be serviced as these may be ad hoc and must be actioned as soon as possible.
