The appropriate background music is considered to improve the working environment and to not interfere nor only to satisfy ones hearing aesthetics. The objective of this study is to understand how managers can utilize background music as a tool to improve the working environment and how it influences people's working affection and performance. For analytical purpose, a research was conducted at an elevator assembly plant with 61 workers as the sampling size. The influence to workers' affection, performance and defective rate were recorded and surveyed to compare between classical and pop music as the background music. All data were analyzed using SPSS software's t - test with the following findings. Pop background music possesses a better influence to workers' affection than classical background music. According to the survey result, 75% of those surveyed agrees that pop background music reduces the dullness of work, 66% considered it to relieve tension, 64% to reduce fatigue and 64% to limit depression at work. Even though this research did not discover significant influences to working performance and defective rate with both pop and classical background music, it is evident that background music offers a positive influence to working affection and in particularly, is more evidently achieved with pop than classical background music.
