COMPETITION CATEGORY AND ELIGIBILITY Pre-Category “Young Talents Primary School Junior School Senior School/College Open Category - Born in year 2007 and younger - Born in year 2003 and younger - Born in year 1999 and younger - Born in year 1995 and younger - No age limit COMPETITION PROCEDURES This competition is open to pianists from all nationalities. All pieces must be performed from memory. A change to any of the chosen repertoire stated in the Application Form is NOT allowed. A performance may be stopped prior to or during the Competition upon the decision of the Jury. In Pre-Category “Young Talents” ONLY three (3) winners will qualify. In other categories, ONLY six (6) candidates from the Preliminary Stage will advance to Semi-final Stage; no more than three (3) candidates from Semi-final Stage will advance to Final Stage. Jury’s decision is final, and no appeal will be entertained. Competitors should not have any communication with members of the Jury. Any such attempt, the competitor(s) will be disqualified from the Competition. All decisions concerning the Competition will remain the responsibility of the Organizing Committee of the 6th ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to make all final decisions in the event of any dispute. The 6th ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition has sole rights over all competition performances, recordings, and or films. No fee shall be paid to the competitor in the event of their performance or any recording or broadcast made. The 6th ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition will be held at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, from 7th-13th December 2015. A schedule for the Competition will be announced at a later date. All performances are open to the public. Prizes: - All accepted participants will receive a ‘Certificate of Participation’. - All finalists will be awarded with a certificate and cash prize. Preliminary Stage: (A) Two Virtuosic Etudes – free choice from the following composers:C.Czerny - Op 299 books 3 or 4, Op 740 F. Chopin – Op 10 and Op 25 M.Moszkowski – Op 72 F. Liszt, F. Mendelsshon, A.Scriabin, C.Debussy, S.Prokofiev Audition judging: Each candidate is to submit a DVD recording of a piece (free choice) together with the application documents. (B) J.S.Bach – Two contrasting dances from French Suites, English Suites or Partitas or G.F.Handel – Two contrasting movements from any of the suites Repertoire: A free selection of two or three pieces from different eras (between 6 -8 minutes). (C) First movement ( or second and third movements) from Sonata, or Variations (complete) from Classical era. (A+B+C not more than 25 minutes) PRIMARY SCHOOL (born in year 2003 and younger) Semi-final Stage: Audition judging: Each candidate is to submit a DVD recording of a piece (free choice) fom the Preliminary Stage repertoire together with the application documents. (B) Free choice of a piece fromRomantic or 20th Century era - between 6-9 minutes) (C) A commissioned piece by a Malaysian composer - about 5 minutes (this piece will be sent to the candidates three months prior to the competition). Final Stage: One piece: F. Chopin – A free choice of one piano Concerto, first movement only No. 1 op. 11 in E Minor, No. 2 op. 21 in F Minor or F. Chopin – Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brilliant Op.22 OPEN CATEGORY (no age limit) Audition judging: Each candidate is to submit a DVD recording of one (1) F.Chopin Etude from the Preliminary Stage repertoire, and one (1) movement of a Sonata, together with the application documents. (You can, however, appoint your own pianist for accompaniment). Results of the Audition Judging will be announced on Persatuan Chopin Malaysia’s website and FaceBook by 15th July 2015. 5. Applicants who are accepted after the Audition Judging are obliged to pay The Participation Fee by/before 5th August 2015.
