Was the only child to live past 25, and lost her father at age 5
She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart, an all girl Catholic school
Married Oscar Chopin in 1870 and had 6 children
After Oscar Chopin died of malaria, the family moved to St. Louis in 1884
 At Fault (1890) and The Awakening (1899) are the two novels she
published.
 Bayou Folk (1894) and A Night in Acadie (1897) are collections of her short
stories.
 Many of her stories are for children.
 Some believe that her works were part of the feminist movement, but she
did not think of herself as a feminist.
 Chopin’s writing style is thought to be early modernism.
 She died of cerebral hemorrhaging after a day at the World’s Fair in 1904.
