Kendall Robinson Morgan Kish Kate Chopin 1850-1904 Was the only child to live past 25, and lost her father at age 5 She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart, an all girl Catholic school Married Oscar Chopin in 1870 and had 6 children After Oscar Chopin died of malaria, the family moved to St. Louis in 1884 At Fault (1890) and The Awakening (1899) are the two novels she published. Bayou Folk (1894) and A Night in Acadie (1897) are collections of her short stories. Many of her stories are for children. Some believe that her works were part of the feminist movement, but she did not think of herself as a feminist. Chopin’s writing style is thought to be early modernism. She died of cerebral hemorrhaging after a day at the World’s Fair in 1904.
