About the SBTDC
Founded in September 1984, North Carolina’s Small Business and Technology Development
Center (SBTDC) is the business and technology extension service of The University of North
Carolina. The SBTDC is administered by North Carolina State University and operated in
partnership with US Small Business Administration. The SBTDC is committed to providing
knowledge, education and other supportive resources that enable existing small and mid-sized
businesses, emerging entrepreneurs and local/state leaders to innovate and succeed.
The North Carolina Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is a service provided by the
Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC). The SBTDC has sponsored the NC
PTAC program since 1986. The NC PTAC aims to provide eligible businesses with Department of
Defense (DoD) assistance so that they may provide specialized and professional technical
assistance to individuals and businesses that are seeking to pursue and successfully perform
under contracting and subcontracting opportunities with the DoD, other federal agencies,
and/or state and local governments.

Position Description
The SBTDC/PTAC intends to hire a student intern to work with the PTAC program director to
conduct procurement research and assist in the creation of reports to be distributed to the
Department of Commerce and other agencies. Tasks include:
 Utilize federal, state, and local government procurement databases to identify
subcontract awards to North Carolina companies and assist in defining a process to
capture this data on an ongoing basis
 Analyze subcontract and prime contract awards to both North Carolina companies and
out of state firms to determine correlations across different industries and locations.
 Research veteran employment statistics within North Carolina firms and defense
installations located within the state to determine correlations between veteran
employment and defense industries.
