PGCE Primary Newsletter – CPD Special
As in previous years the Manchester Primary PGCE Partnership is providing opportunities for free CPD. This
is in addition to the days of training we provide for Accredited Tutors and the CPD associated with working
with students on placement. Many CPD events have been held in our clusters in the last three years, see a
summary on page four.

Provided by the INSPIRE school network in Rochdale the following opportunities are

Courses for NQTs Provided by Tyldesley Primary School
Tyldesley Primary school is an outstanding primary school and a National
Teaching School. We have been delivering CPD to NQTS, trainees and teachers
now for the past three years successfully and our feedback is excellent. All
training is delivered by experienced practitioners and we are experienced in
developing trainees and NQTs. Free places for MIE alumni.

Future CPD Possibilities in Partnership Clusters
Each Manchester University cluster has its own CPD budget and can organize
CPD events for school staff, for example, a number of CPD events are on offer to
Partnership hubs led by Tyldesley Primary School. These could include the
following for school staff (students could be invited by arrangement).

MIE Research Matters 2014
The Manchester Institute of Education runs a series of Research Seminars at
lunchtimes (12.00-1.00). These are held in Ellen Wilkinson Building and report
the ongoing research of members of the department. They would be of interest
to anyone in education, particularly those interested in educational research,

MIE Research Opportunity
A team here at the Manchester Institute of Education will be evaluating the
'Good Behaviour Game.' An invitation will be going out to all partnership schools
later in the year to invite you to the research recruitment event to consider
whether you might wish to be involved. The research is aimed in the first
instance at Year 3. "
MIE Research Coalition
The Manchester Institute of Education has a thriving Research Coalition of
schools in the North West. It aims do develop enquiry-based approaches in
schools linked to key challenges in supporting children from disadvantaged

The Manchester University PGCE programme in partnership with
the Inspirational network of Rochdale primary schools is organising
themed sessions of classroom observations and small group
discussions in three Rochdale primary schools. There will be
opportunities to observe high quality classroom practice across all
primary ages in successful schools serving challenging
communities and meeting a wide range of pupils’ needs.

Sarah Quinn – Focus Education
Sarah has a background as a successful primary school teacher and leader.
Sarah delivers training and support to schools as a consultant, working closely with
leadership teams, and teachers to raise the quality of their practice. Sarah previously
worked for Ofsted.
The Conference will include:

The new National Curriculum and Ofsted framework
A range of pedagogy and teaching styles for different purposes
How effectively your current environment supports differentiation, filtering and
challenge
Current educational research and remaining self-motivated to continually
develop
How to ensure the maximum number of children make progress during lessons

How to maximise learning time and time management strategies

You will work with colleagues on practical activities, share best practice and
watch a range of teaching examples
