Pair Fellow of the ICCP, 1982 3 What is the ICCP? The Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP) established in 1973 by the major professional associations in North America to provide centralized exam development and testing for the Information and Communications Technology industry. ICCP certificate holders have to exhibit comprehension and knowledge of stringent industry fundamentals, not single product specifics. The ICCP is an independent certification organization that offers five (experience based, professional level) professional credentials, the – Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP), – Certified Computing Professional – (CCP), – Certified Data Management Professional – (CDMP), – Certified IT Consultant – (CITC) – Certified IT Compliance Professional - (CITCP) and three (entry level); the – Associate Computing Professional-ACP; – Information Systems Analyst (ISA) for graduates of 4 year university programs At any time any person can take “Expert – Mastery proficiency” level credentials in specialized subject areas as well as programming languages. You need to pass one (1) exam in the specialized area that you are seeking acknowledgement of your expert skill level by passing with a score of 70% or more. 4 Forces Driving Growth in IT Professional Certification Adapted from “The Complete Guide to Certification for Computing Professionals” 5 Reasons for Seeking Certification Other 3.6% Attain Access to Vendor Support 1.8% Increase Compensation 2.4% Assess Current Expertise 3.1% Improve Job Security 4.8% Job Requirement 8.0% Secure Employment 8.1% Prepare for New Job 9.4% Advancement in Current Job 17.2% Advancement in Profession 41.7% 0.0% 10.0% 20.0% 30.0% Source: ICCP Research Study (Athabasca University) 40.0% 50.0% 6 Primary Achievement Resulting from Certification "Increase in Salary" 11% "Solve Problems Quicker" 19% "Greater SelfEsteem" 22% "More Credibility within Organization" 24% "More Credibility with Customers" 24% 7 Why People Certify Other 11.4% Credential 37.3% Company Requirement 0.4% Financial Reward 0.4% Self-Evaluation 5.1% Professional Growth 45.3% 8 Educational Level Bachelor's Degree 46% Doctoral Degree 1% Jr. College Graduate 11% High School Graduate 4% Some High School 1% Masters Degree 13% Some College 22% Other 2% 9 Degree of Majors Statistics 7% Science 9% Accounting 5% Other 4% Engineering 4% Information Science 13% Mathematics 4% Education 1% Business 13% Liberal Arts 5% MIS/BIS 4% Communications 7% Computer Science 24% 13 Company Participants US Department of State US CyberCrime Center Dell Eastman Kodak Company American Airlines Microsoft Manitoba Lotteries Commission State Farm Insurance IBM Ford Ohio Board of Education Telus Alberta Blue Cross Infosys Alcan Aluminum R.L.
