She was born in Owensboro, Ky. but grew up in Glasgow, Ky. She was adopted into a prominent family where they had a cook and a maid. Her new family offered her endless possibilities and provided her a wonderful life. She went to UK College of Nursing where she met my grandfather. Nana never went a day without her make-up on and her fingernails painted. If we saw Nana and didn’t have our make-up on she would ask us,” did you oversleep…are you sick?” She was very lady-like and proper. Her home was beautiful and professionally decorated. She always stressed education to her children and she always said, “If you don’t expect it, you’ll never achieve it.” My grandfather put her on a pedestal. She died 2 and ½ years ago from a long illness at the age of 71. Great-great aunt and great grandmother Great-great aunt- Viola Vanderpool Harris She came to Kentucky on a covered wagon from Oklahoma. Her father owned a grocery store on a street which later became known as Vanderpool Alley (off Euclid). She went to Transylvania University at a time when women were not encouraged to go to college. She was very prissy and she never wore pants a day in her life because she believed it was unladylike. She was active in the community and loved to play bridge. She was very active in the Republican Party. She helped set up the Mary Todd Lincoln Museum and Parker Place. She died at 95 of old age. Great grandmother- Pearl Vanderpool Morford was my grandmother’s adopted mother. She lived in Glasgow, Ky. She also went to Transylvania and played on the golf team there. She believed women should all know proper etiquette, know how to entertain, play bridge, and golf. She died from a fire in her house. My Parents William A. McCray (dad) and Mary Vanderpool Price McCray (mom) Married on January 18, 1980. My parents met through mutual roommates and eloped. My father grew up in Lexington and graduated from Bryan Station High school. He then went to Eastern Kentucky University. He has owned and operated an electronics business, McCray Electronics, for 22 years. My father can do or fix anything and I like to refer to him as Macqyver. My mother grew up in Lexington and graduated from Tates Creek High School. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in child development. Currently, my mother is a real estate agent which serves her well because my parents buy and sell real estate. My mother has a talent for decorating and is very good at it. I believe she could show Martha Stewart a thing or two. My parents are wonderful people who raised two wonderful girls. Sisterly Love… My sister’s name is Elizabeth Ashley McCray Willis but goes by Ashley. She is 25 years old and is married to Dave Willis and they have a adorable son named Cooper who is almost 2 years old. My sister was a big entertainer who loved to sing and dance and was in two Broadway shows in New York City at the young age of nine. She graduated from Lafayette High School where she was valedictorian, senior class president, drum major, and even homecoming queen. So, I don’t have to say I had big shoes to follow growing up. She went to Georgetown College on a full academic scholarship and graduated with a degree in communications and a minor in political science. She was going to go to law school but decided to get her masters in education and teach so she could impact children. She was a teacher for a year until she became a mother. Currently, my sister and Dave moved to Augusta, Georgia where Dave will be a minister and they are expecting their second son. ME My name is Morgan Kelly McCray and I was born on December 20, 1984. As a child, I loved to cheer, dance, wear spandex, ride my jeep, and jump on the trampoline. Currently, I am a student at UK and majoring in Elementary Education. On the weekends, you can find me serving at El-Chico (a Mexican restaurant). I absolutely love anything girly, especially the color pink!!
