What is Digital Communication?
Data transmission, digital transmission, or digital communications
is the physical transfer of data over a point-to-point or point-tomultipoint communication channel. Examples of such channels
are copper wires, optical fibers, wireless communication channels,
storage media and computer buses. The data are represented as
an electromagnetic signal, such as an electrical voltage, radiowave, microwave, or infrared signal.

DCL-01

“DCL-01: Analog Signal Sampling And Reconstruction Kit” is
an introductory trainer kit to understand the
Analog Signal Sampling and Reconstruction.
principles
of
 This unit provides the user sine wave of two different
frequencies (1 KHz and 2 KHz), whose amplitude can be
varied from 0V to 5V by using the pots P1 and P2
respectively.
 All onboard signals are Phase-Locked, to enable the learner to
observe a stationary signal on an oscilloscope.

DCL-02
• “DCL-02: TDM Pulse Amplitude Modulation / Demodulation Kit”
provides facilities for experimentation in the area of Time
Division Multiplexing and Pulse Amplitude Modulation.
• An onboard Function Generator provides four synchronized
amplitude variable sine waves: 250Hz, 500Hz, 1 KHz, 2 KHz,
and an amplitude variable DC level for generation of
synchronization pulses. The 32 KHz-sampling clock and 8 KHz
channel identification signal are also generated onboard.
• On each Receiver channel, a 4th order Low Pass Butterworth
Filter is provided with cut-off frequencies of 3.4 kHz, to obtain
reconstructed signals from the de-multiplexed and
demodulated signals.

DCL-03 and DCL-04
• “DCL-03” and “DCL-04” initiates the user to understand the
fundamentals of Pulse Code Modulation Techniques.
• The various principles of Pulse Code Modulation, such as
Sampling, Multiplexing, Quantizing and Encoding, can be
studied with these trainer kits.
• The trainer also illustrates the use of parity bit for single bit
error detection and Hamming Code for single bit error detection
and correction.
• Frame Synchronization using a pseudo random bit sequence
(PRBS) and bit Synchronization using phase locked loops are
also illustrated in these kits.

 The trainer comes with an onboard data simulator, which
generates the NRZ-L pattern depending on positions of 8-bit
switch and the reference clock (266 KHz), which enables the
trainers to work in a stand-alone mode.
 Interconnection facilities:
Sockets and patch chords are provided for on board connections.
 Test Points :
All relevant test points are brought-out for observations.
Observations are carried out on an oscilloscope.
 Power Supply
-12V, +5V, GND.
