CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER 2015
This term is almost over and we would like to thank everyone for all the
hard work and effort they have put in. This term has seen many fundraising
activities, wonderful Christmas shows and as always dedication and
enthusiasm from the teaching staff.
Many thanks to all the parents who have contributed to the various charities
we support and also to the parents who help in both the library and with the
Bake Sale. All your help is really appreciated.
Charity
The Bake Sale raised 1255.42. The money raised went to “Comida Social
Ventas”, which is a charity which helps people who have been affected by
the crisis here in Spain by providing food and supplies for them and their
families.
COLLECTION OF TOYS
Many parents very kindly donated both new and second-hand toys to the
British Ladies Bazaar. The “British Ladies” is involved in many charities
all over Spain.
POPPY APPEAL
The Annual Poppy Appeal took place in November. This year we raised
115.15 euros. The British Consulate was very grateful for Numont`s
contribution and send their thanks for all everyone´s generosity.
1.
ALBERGUE SANTA MARIA DE LA PAZ
This is a shelter for homeless men which Numont has helped support for
many years. Every year we send money which has been raised from Bake
Sales, the International Evening, or private donations. We also sent food
and clothes which are specifically requested by the shelter.
Just before Christmas we sent foodstuffs such as coffee, milk, rice and
pasta which had been brought in by parents and children.
The men and staff at the Albergue are very grateful for the contributions
all through the year but especially so at Christmas.
“NUMONT MASTERCHEF” & ART CLUB
Christmas Cake & Card Sale
Friday 18th December 15.30p.m. In the patio.
Mrs Bazakis and her “Masterchef” group will be selling a
variety of cupcakes from the delicious recipes they have
been testing this term.
Mrs Jessica’s Art Club will also be selling original
handmade Christmas cards made by the children.
All proceeds will go to the Albergue Santa Maria de la Paz
CHRISTMAS ASSEMBLIES
Each class performed a Christmas Assembly which parents and friends came to watch.
The teachers and children worked very hard learning lines and songs and it was great
practice for them to perform in front of an audience.
Special thanks to all the class teachers and assistants.
The teachers have each written a few words about this first term.
NURSERY
Nursery have been learning about the topic “Ourselves” this term.
They really enjoyed carrying out the various activities related to
this topic and showed a lot of interest when learning about their
five senses. The children practised really hard for the Christmas
assembly and they put in a great performance when their families
came to see them. Well done to each of them!
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry
Christmas and I'll see you all in 2016!!
Mrs Majella
Reception
In Reception this term, the children have explored a number
of topics on their learning journey, such as “Ourselves”,
“Autumn”, “People who help us” and “Celebrations”. They had
lots of fun talking about and acting out what they want to be
when they grow up! We would like to thank Isabel Garcia
Soto and Eva Guerra for coming in to talk to us about their
professions. The children really enjoyed the talk that they
gave.
Aside from exciting activities in the classroom, Reception
enjoyed their school trip to the the” Cultivalia Orchard” in
October. The children loved learning about plants and collecting
fruit and vegetables. They had a great time making their own
carrot biscuits to take home.
Christmas is always an exciting time at Numont. Reception have
been getting in the festive mood with Christmas crafts and
singing. The children practised hard for their Christmas
assembly and had a great time performing their songs for their
family members. Well done children, and thank you families for
your continued support.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all.
Miss Olivia & Miss Franchesca
This term in Year 1 the children have been working very
hard on their writing and have improved a lot since
September:
Earlier in the term we really enjoyed our visit to the farm
and had a great time making biscuits and creating vegetable
paintings on canvas. The children were also able to see and
feed lots of different animals as well as riding on a pony.
The children had a great time preparing their Christmas
shows. Year 1A performed “A Snowman at Sunset” and all
sang beautifully. Year 1B performed “Sugar Plum” and
acted out their parts very professionally.
On the 10th of December the children had a VERY special
delivery that arrived from the North Pole. Santa Claus sent
each Year 1 class one of his Elves!
The Elf brought a letter from Santa to say that if the children
behaved very well, he would be bringing them some presents
and treats each day. It was very exciting!
Miss Laura & Miss Cindy
Year 2
This term year 2 have visited the farm, where we made marmalade and did
some food printing linked to our topic in science ´healthy eating´. We've
also been to the theatre to see 'Alicia en el pais de las maravaillas', which
all the children enjoyed! We've studied the Great Fire of London, looked at
life on an island, and learnt how to draw a self-portrait! We are looking
forward to our Christmas show 'Christmas around the world' which will
take place in December.
Mrs Jessica, Mrs Williams, & Miss Katie
Year 3
Year 3 have been studying the Stone Age this
term. We really enjoyed seeing how people lived
thousands of years ago. We went on a trip by bus to
visit caves in Segovia and we spent the day exploring
underground! We all enjoyed imagining what life must
have been like for people living during those
times. There were fascinating cave paintings on the
walls and when we got back to class, we made our
own cave paintings using charcoal. A few weeks later,
we went to see an exhibition about the Early Humans
and saw some amazing replicas of dinosaurs. Of
course we know that humans didn't live in the time of
dinosaurs, but we still like to imagine what if...?

Year 4 – Mr Hooley, Mrs Pammy, & Mrs Hudson.
Roman Day
This term Year 4 continued with their in-depth study of
the Romans.
We had a “Roman Day” which was thoroughly enjoyed by
all the children. There was a Roman battle which the
children prepared for very well. Shields were made and
each child had a gladius ready for the big event. Before
battle commenced, both "armies" marched, practised
formations and defence strategies. At last the Times
Table battle began and there were "victims" on all sides.
It was hard to say who was victorious as it seemed that
all the armies were keen to surrender in order to get to
eat some Roman food before play time!!
The Roman food was quite authentic to what would have
been eaten in Roman times.
We made Roman bread and Meritum puls (a type of
porridge with honey). The Roman food tastes quite
different to modern food but curiously the children
seemed to really like it!!!
Thanks to all of the children for participating with such
great enthusiasm to make the day a success and a big
thanks to all of the parents for organising their Roman
costumes.
Our study in the classroom of the Romans was reinforced
by a visit to a Roman villa near the village of Carranque.
This was an excellent way for the children to visualize and
analyse much of what they had been studying.
Year 4 Assemblies
Year 4A performed “Out of This Christmas” and Year 4B
& 4C performed “Santa’s on Strike”.
The Assemblies were a mixture of acting and singing and
helped get us all in the mood for the holidays. There were
some sterling performances from some budding actors and
actresses in all classes. It was great to see the children
confident and enjoying performing in front of an audience.
Year 5 Take on the Universe
Year 5 launched into the year at full throttle with their wonderful space projects. The children
produced 3D models of the solar system, and it has to be said that they lived up to the topic and
were out of this world!
Well done to
each and every one of you for your magnificent efforts.
Continuing with our artistic flow, we visited the Reina Sofia to see the awe-inspiring work of
Pablo Picasso and his world-famous Guernica painting. Year 5 behaved impeccably and
enjoyed the opportunity to see up close and personal what we had been studying in the
classroom. Well done Year 5, you were a credit to the school.
To round off the term on a merry note, we performed our Christmas pantomime Snow White
and the Seven Jockeys. Both classes worked extremely hard preparing the show to get their
audience into the Christmas spirit. It is fair to say the children have earned their place on the
‘Nice List’ as they pulled off a cracker with their performance.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Miss Smith & Miss Grogan
Year 6
Year 6 is upstairs in the main building this year. Our rooms are bright and colourful. We
enjoyed a day out in the Retiro Park where we took photos of things that caught our interest.
some man made and some were objects of nature. We developed the photos and brought a
selection into school. Using water colours we attempted to capture the photo as realistically as
possible. Some of the art work is so good you can hardly tell the difference between art and
photo! Come upstairs and see our ART GALLERY.
In History we have studied the fascinating subject of Pompeii. This city was destroyed by a
volcano on the 24th of August 79 A.D. We know absolutely everything there is to know about
this subject. We have even made our own volcano. Come up and read our accounts of this
tragic event.
All of year 6 got together to celebrate at Andrew's day on the 30th of November. We learned
lots of things about the patron saint of Scotland. We applied our knowledge of ratio to
calculate "huge" quantities of ingredients for shortbread. We made lots of trays of biscuits and
all agreed that they were delicious. Now both classes are getting ready for our show, Roald
Dahl's Cinderella. We have had lots of fun rehearsing.
Mr McLeod & Mrs Kennedy
COMPUTING
The 2014 national curriculum introduces a new subject, computing, which replaces ICT.
Computing is concerned with how computers and computer systems work, and how
they are designed and programmed. Pupils studying computing will gain an
understanding of computational systems of all kinds, whether or not they include
computers. Computational thinking provides insights into many areas of the
curriculum, and influences a wide range of disciplines.
Computing is a practical subject, in which invention and resourcefulness are
encouraged. This combination of principles, practice and invention makes computing
an extraordinary useful and intensely creative subject, suffused with excitement, both
visceral ("it works!") and intellectual ("that is so beautiful").
"Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate- able to use, and express
themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication
technology- at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a
digital world" (Department of Education).
The children continue to enjoy Computing and show excitement with the new
"programmes/games" we have acquired this term. We´ve already written a letter to
Santa for the next term

P.E NEWS
We have been enjoying the wonderful sunny weather at the sportscentre this half term. The
children have been playing Hockey and Football and beginning to prepare for the Runnymede
Cross Country competition on January 20th.
British Council Tag Rugby Tournament
The year 6 girls/boys Tag Rugby team spent an enjoyable day participating in the tournament.
They played well scoring many tries and were unlucky not to get through to the second round.
John was an excellent captain. Good performances from all the team.
Hastings Football Tournament
The year 6 boys’ team will be taking part in the tournament at the end of term.
Good Luck!!
In the Spring term the Numont teams will be competing in Basketball and Football
tournaments.
Mrs Bazakis
The Music Department
This term the children have been busy during music classes. They have learnt new
songs, played with the instruments and are learning about the orchestra.
The children in Year 5 and 6 have composed their own Halloween songs in small
groups and went around the school to perform them. Some children were chosen to
perform during “Pupil of the Week”.
Next term KS1 & Reception will be busy preparing for the Spring Show “Peter Pan”.
Miss Davies
SPRING & SUMMER SHOWS
Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1
Reception to Year 2) will be on Thursday 17th March
Key Stage 2
(Year 3 to Year 6) will be on Thursday 16th June
The shows will take place at 18.30 in the theatre at the
Colegio Menesiano, Avda. Brasilia 11.
Normally Numont communicates with the parents via email. There is a Numont App
which can be downloaded on to any smart phone. We are hoping to send information
and news via the app as well as by email next term. If enough parents download the app
then we will add it as an extra way of communication.
Computers are becoming very important in the children’s school day. They are used for
presentations, collecting information, and together with the interactive whiteboards,
they add an extra dimension to both teaching and learning. This term, Numont has
acquired tablets which are used by all classes to implement and aid the school
curriculum, as well as for research.
Last Week of School
We are nearly in the last week of the Autumn Term.
It has been a productive and successive term where children have
worked hard and made excellent progress across the curriculum.
Reports will be given out on Friday 18th December. The Reports will be in special folders. Please
return the folder only and keep the reports safe for future use. The Report Folder may be kept at
the end of the year when Summer Term reports are given out so you may safely keep all the
years’ reports in it.
Santa will be visiting Numont on on the last week of term to give gifts to the
Nursery and Reception children and chocolate decorations to all the
children.
School finishes at 14.00 on the last day of term (22nd December) although the school
gates will be open from 13.30 onwards.
Please collect your child promptly by 14.00. There will be a bus service at 14.00 that
day. Parents of children who normally get the bus must inform the office if their child is
not getting the bus that day. The children will all be given school lunch on the 22nd
December.
As usual children may come in to school on the last day of term dressed as they wish
and bring a “treat” to school to share with their class.
On behalf of all the staff at Numont, we
would like to wish you all a very Happy
Holiday and all the Very Best for 2016!
