Homework:
The course online communication between you and I is very important; any
course schedule updates will be announced through Canvas. Any online
communication between you and I will be through the Canvas inbox or
discussion board. I always answer students’ messages within a day on Canvas
each school day during the semester. If I have not responded to your email or
message for more than a day, then it means I did not receive it.
Read the course syllabus on Canvas
Follow the instruction on how to access WebAssign.net from Canvas. It
instructs you on how to use your free trial in WebAssign and how to purchase
the access code online.
I will set up your account in WebAssign and help you to get on the
WebAssign.net, and teach you how to use the online homework and learning
resources in WebAssign .
You are required to take a timed pre-test at the testing center (ELC 2nd floor)
during the first week of the semester. It is for teaching assessment purposes
only. The score will not affect your grade.
Course event updates will be announced on Canvas Announcement.
Do the reading posted on Canvas before each lecture day.
Participate and complete the in class Discussion Problems with a group.
Participate the Discussion Board on Canvas with the class outside the class.
Submit your assignments on time.
In case of a late homework assignment, you should do the extension request in
WebAssign within 7 days after the due date.
Take your quizzes/midterm exams/final exam on time
Let me help you if you have any question. (online or in my office)
Have fun and enjoy the course.
Expect about 2 hours of homework for each hour in class. I encourage you to collaborate
on homework. Homework will be submitted online using WebAssign.net. You are
required to purchase the WebAssign access code to complete your course homework.
In case of a late assignment past the assignment due date, I encourage you to complete
them by using the homework extension request in WebAssign. There is a late penalty in
WebAssign for the late submission. The final homework score will be migrated to
Canvas at the end of the semester. The lowest 3 lesson assignments will be dropped
automatically. You should be able to follow your homework progress using the
WebAssign grade book.
Discussion Problems:
A set of discussion problems will be given in class throughout the semester. You will
work on the problems in class with a group. You are required to bring either a laptop
computer, mobile device with WIFI, or smart phone to class to access the problems and
submit them online. Discussion problems are required to take it in class only. Missed
discussion problems cannot be made up.
Quizzes:
Chapter quizzes will be held after each chapter to give students important feedback, to
monitor student’s progress. Missed quizzes cannot be made up. Quizzes will be taken
online in WebAssign.
Exams:
There will be four exams during the semester and one final. Missed unexcused exams
will be scored as zero. If you have an emergency or illness, you are required to send me
an email and state the reason before the test date ends. The lowest exam score will be
dropped. There is NO make up exam available. The comprehensive final exam will be
held during the final week and it will be announced during the last week of class. All tests
will be taken on campus at the SUU testing center.
Attendance:
Regular attendance is crucial for understanding the subject matter. Do not fall behind – it
will be extremely hard to catch up. Attendance will be recorded on Canvas. The
attendance score will go directly toward the course bonus. Low attendance will affect
your in class group participation with Discussion Problems.
There will be no tolerance for any behavior that has a negative effect on other students’
learning in class. The instructor may ask you to leave the classroom. For example, talking
loudly in class will disturb the lecture and other students’ learning.
If your attendance or academic performance shows deficiencies you will receive a
notification from me through the Student Assessment Notification System. Please take
advantage of the support offered.
Academic Integrity:
Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.
