Natural Resources Manager

Description
Nahant Marsh seeks a Natural Resources Manager to coordinate natural resource-related efforts at the
preserve. This will be a 30 hour per week position.
Duties















Select and assign staff, ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring
Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work
of subordinate employees
Coordinate and direct natural resources volunteers, including Friends of Nahant Marsh
Assist with planning and conduct public education programs and special events
Write grants and seek other funding sources to support natural resources activities
Ensure safety as a priority for themselves, workers, volunteers, and visitors
Gather and assess data; create GIS maps
Maintain records, prepare reports and compose correspondence relative to the work
Determine natural resources management needs and opportunities
Formulate policies, procedures, plans for existing, and new natural resource related activities
Direct and assist with restoration and management activities
Assist with facility maintenance duties as needed
Write newsletter articles
Maintain working relationships with other employees and the public
Perform related tasks as assigned
Requirements










Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field
Minimum of 2 years experience working in the conservation field
Experience working in wetlands
Management/leadership experience
Eagerness to learn and share knowledge
Willingness to work with people from all backgrounds and talking to the media
Self-motivated, able to follow directions and work independently
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
Federal Wildland Firefighter Certification within 12 months of hire
Chainsaw safety training within 6 months of hire







Pesticide applicators license within 6 months of hire
CPR/First Aid
Knowledge of budgets and grant writing
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
GIS preferred
Successful candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills, negotiation skills,
and diplomacy and be able to work effectively within teams
Criminal background check
Preferred Skills and Knowledge

Construction skills
Equipment operation and management
Knowledge of Midwest wildlife, flora, and natural history
Previous field research experience
Independent planning and execution of specific tasks
Hours of Work
The Natural Resource Manager will be a part-time (30 hours per week) position. Work will be Monday –
Friday, with occasional weekends and evenings as needed. Opportunity to attend professional
conferences/workshops/trainings
About Nahant Marsh
Mission: The mission of Nahant Marsh is to preserve and enhance the ecological integrity of the marsh
and to foster wonder, appreciation, interaction, and stewardship of the natural world through
education.
Nahant Marsh Education Center, a non-profit, is a 265 acre treasure nestled in Southwest Davenport, IA.
It is part of a 513 acre wetland complex that is bordered by the Mississippi River, Interstate 280, and
Iowa Highway 22. The marsh area encompasses different community types including prairie, bottomland
forest, open-water habitat, and a marsh–all surrounded by suburban, industrial, and agricultural land.
Nahant Marsh is growing and excited to be able to open this position.
