Introduction and Confirmation of New Members: No input Bylaw Updates: Clint Rossland, Kambiz Farahmand, and Mike Kiernan met before the meeting today and there are no updates to the bylaws. Emmy Vareberg asked if we are still requiring members to attend at least one meeting every two years to remain active on the board; the answer is yes—if you do not attend one meeting every two years you will be placed on the inactive list. Help encourage legislators to reinstate these funds. No new positions this year because of tight budgets. Good fiscal management in IME Department. John Hansmann asked “What is the University’s/College’s strategy in moving forward?” Gary Smith answered: “As a college we are talking to state legislators, forming campus focus groups, performing SWOT Analyses.” NDSU is focusing on collaboration efforts with UND (collaborators rather than competitors). There is nothing to worry about from an alumni perspective as far as funding. Meets & greets with companies; alliance with Sanford Health; joint bio-medical engineering degree program with UND possibility in future. Renovation of ALA and Ehly; need to have analysis done as to how we can raise money for new engineering building State of the University – Dr. Craig Schnell, Provost President Bresciani’s State of the University Address Listening groups on campus Budget issues – College lost 10% of their operating budget Collaboration between two research universities is good (UND/NDSU) NDSU Strategic Plan Emmy Vareberg asked if all space projects have been taken off the books; the Provost said that the SBHE removed all but $1M for repairs only. Mike Kiernan asked the board if there were any comments on these individuals or any other nominations. These two nominations were approved by a quorum of voting members of the board. Chris Barta suggested we ask the recipients when they would like to receive the award (in spring or fall). No other recipients were identified by the board at this time. Faculty Presentation – Dr. Jing Shi Advisory Board Member Presentation – Mike Kiernan “World Class Manufacturing” Spring Meeting Planning Spring Advisory Board Meeting is planned for Friday, April 29, 2011 This will be a “working meeting” – Curriculum Review and Assessment committee and Laboratory Improvement Committee Laboratory Improvement Committee (the old Fundraising committee) is now a standing committee President Bresciani to be invited by Mike Kiernan All Alumni Reunion Discussion (Cook) Review candidates for Award of Excellence Extend invitation to Jodi Uecker-Rust to receive award Faculty presentation Advisory board presentation “Non-Traditional Role in Air Force as Industrial Engineer” (COL David Long); have backup if unable to attend Coop internships and assessment of student performance Capstone presentations John Hansmann suggested we have another student presentation and interaction with advisory board members (possibly fundraising issues, etc.).
