The heartbeat cycle
Each cycle equals

Heart Rate
• Heart rate or Pulse the

– Arteries stretch each time
ventricles contract.
• Heart Beat: caused by
closing of valves. Typically
“lub-dup, lub-dup.”
– Lub = closing of A.V. valves.
– Dup = closing of Semilunar
valves.
• Heart murmurs: hissing
caused by valve defects.
