Riverside County Sheriff's Department is looking to hire distinguished
candidates who can serve in a lead role in a county correctional facility
handling specialized clerical duties.
The Sheriff Corrections Assistant II is assigned to the jail facility Business Offices and
have the responsibility to review court documents, perform time computations to
determine inmate sentence and proper release date, update and access booking charges.
Use computerized law enforcement tracking systems.
Candidates are expected to develop and have a thorough understanding of specific law
enforcement laws and codes, rules and regulations and the ability to interpret and apply
this knowledge to a variety of legal documents and transactions.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.) Assists line staff in receiving court documents and revising them for accuracy;
interprets court proceedings to determine which inmates are to be released or detained;
and ensures inmates are scheduled appropriately for future court appearances.
2.) Inputing charges into the Jail Information Management System (JIMS); queries the
California Law Enforcement Tracking System (CLETS), and National Crime Information
Center computer automated criminal information tracking systems for accuracy, reviews
booking charges and the proper application of the bail schedule and rules to determine
bail.
3.) Verifies information in inmate's file and applies appropriate Penal Code and Bail Table
rules/regulations in order to compute inmates' sentences and determine proper discharge
date.
4.) Reviews time computations to insure calculation is consistent with court documents;
confirms release date and insures release date.
5.) Prepares a variety of complex statistical reports, highly confidential reports,
correspondence and other specialized documents.
6.) May act as shift supervisor as required; participates in the selection, training and
evaluation of subordinate staff.
RECRUITING GUIDELINES:
Preferred consideration for candidates with experience as a lead worker in a business
office setting for a correctional/detention facility.
To be considered, candidates must have the following typical qualifications:
Experience:
One year of experience as a Sheriff's Corrections Assistant I with Riverside County.
OR
Two years of experience with a governmental law enforcement agency working in a
detention facility performing specialized clerical duties as listed above.

This position has 12-hr work schedules that rotate every 4 months. Position requirements
include wearing a uniform.
Knowledge of:
Basic understanding of the procedures related to the preparation, revision, and processing
of legal documents as they pertain to those in custody; operation of complex computerized
criminal information systems; general operation of the county correctional system and its
interface with other components of the criminal justice system; statistical and fiscal
recordkeeping principles; and the application of the Public Records Act.
Ability to:
Work under stressful conditions. Release confidential information to appropriate person;
computing complex sentences and determining bail amounts on inmates with multiple
cases and/or charges; query a variety of complex automated criminal information software
systems; communicate effectively with department staff, other agencies, and the public
both verbally and in written form; proof and correct draft documents in order to produce
an acceptable final document; train staff and identify training requirements and coordinate
their work; make important custody and security decisions quickly and in accordance with
departmental policies and procedures
