Readers’ Theater for Les Miserables:
Key: Read aloud! Read from the script and read with expression! Build confidence in reading and even
enthusiasm for reading aloud!
1. 6-7 people in a group (editors for script; narrator; performers; cameraman; post-producer)
2. Mission: Create your own dialogue based on the assigned chapters. See Appendix I for reference.
3. Schedule:
W1 (7/29-8/4) write the script (first draft)
W2 (8/5-8/11) revise the script (final draft)
W3 (8/12-8/18) practice (rehearsal) + shoot the clip
W4 (8/19-8/21) finish the shot and subtitle the clip
8/22 (Thir.) premiere in class
8/23 (Fri.) Top 3 Best Films Election

4. How to start?
4.1 Decide contents; list the plots for your play by using graphic organizer 
4.2 Make an outline for your play

4.3 Based on 4.1 & 4.2, decide characters/performers for your RT. How many narrators will be needed?
4.4 Select a leader out and make a practical schedule which everyone is sure to follow.
5. When you are creating your script,
5.1 Write your play in dialogue based on the contents your decide (4.1 & 4.2).
5.2 Be loyal to the reading contents in your novel; otherwise, your audience may have difficulty following.
5.3 Make good use of the words and phrases appearing in the assigned chapters and mark them in your
script.
5.4 Examine whether your dialogue can make your audiences understood—if it is logical enough.
5.5 Humor and creativity are welcome, but abusive language and indecent scenarios are definitely
unaccepted.
6. Before you shoot the clip,
6.1 Practice, practice and practice, since practice makes perfect!  Rehearse again and again!
6.2 Find a proper digital camera. Your smart phone is NOT suggested unless you can show your clip with
high quality.
7. When you are performing in the readers’ theater,
7.1 You are allowed to read from the script.
7.2 Please read as clearly as possible.
7.3 Read with confidence and expression. (Read with emotion.)
7.4 Work cooperatively with your partners. (Take turns properly.)
7.5 Slight acting on the stage is welcome.
