Senior Technical Accountant SCOPE OF POSITION: This position is responsible for advanced accounting activities and financial reporting under both generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles (SAP), as required by management, regulators and others including Florida OIR, NAIC and CMS. This includes research, interpretation and implementation of technical accounting guidelines for AvMed (GAAP and SAP), SantaFe HealthCare and its Affiliates. The position is principally responsible for financial accounting, reconcilement and reporting for all non-standard provider and partner relationships, including capitated arrangements, risk sharing arrangements and joint venture and other partner relationships. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and maintaining systems and processes to capture, record and reconcile premium, medical and other costs associated with member populations included in each arrangement, and to report financial results internally and externally as contractually agreed upon. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Responsible for financial accounting, reconcilement and reporting for all nonstandard provider and partner relationships, including capitated arrangements, risk sharing arrangements and joint venture and other partner relationships. Primary accountability for ensuring AvMed, SantaFe HealthCare and its Affiliates remain current with respect to all new technical accounting and regulatory guidance. The position will research, interpret and implement accounting and reporting changes as necessary, documenting conclusions in technical memorandums and obtaining concurrence from independent auditors. Prepares entity financial statements including appropriate footnote disclosure for external auditing purposes as necessary and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares all types of financial and/or statistical reports including spreadsheets, graphs, tables, and account reconciliations utilizing both hard copy and electronic files. Processes financial transactions for all companies, to include the preparation and posting of journal entries into the general ledger, and reviews and approves journal entries prepared by peers. Serves as a mentor and reviewer of the work of peers in the Accounting Services department. Evaluates internal accounting controls and processes to ensure compliance with policies and laws and to safeguard assets (Model Audit Rule testing). Devises and recommends appropriate models, systems and/or procedures to provide complete, accurate, and timely reports. Communicates work status and results through verbal and written reports to Management, regulators, and other internal and external constituents as necessary. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance required. Masters in Accounting or Tax preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA-eligible required. Three to five years of relevant tax, accounting, auditing or financial reporting experience required. Regulatory and not-for-profit experience preferred. CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE: Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including understanding and application of rules and guidance for annual and other periodic disclosures in the financial statements Rapid learning and comprehension of Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles and the ability to interpret and implement technical guidance changes as they occur.
