Trestle Board – January 2016
Brethren,
I hope each of you had a very Merry Christmas and that the New Year brings you joy and prosperity.
I am very excited about this upcoming year. The combination of a great line of hard working and committed
officers, backed by supportive and dedicated brothers, this year will no doubt be a great success and a lot of fun.
I must start by saying how appreciative I am of Worshipful Brother Scott Sievers; for his love and dedication to
our lodge for the past year and always. I now know personally how touching an Open Installation can be-the
support and kind words I received were humbling and a bit overwhelming; I hope I can live up to the
expectations set for me. The Installation Team did an amazing job and the ladies that prepared the reception, as
always, are to be commended.
One of my goals, for this upcoming year, is to provide the Lodge with as much positive exposure as we can get
in our community. I cannot do this alone; I will need the input and support of the Brethren. If you have any
suggestions or can help in anyway please contact me.
This year was officially started by the building a float and participating in the First Annual Stafford County
Christmas Parade. Which was a huge success, a lot of fun, and I hope will be made into a tradition for years to
come. There were hundreds in attendance and we made every effort to meet, shake hands or wish a Merry
Christmas to each of them. We had assistance in making this possible; I wish to thank each of them:








Brother Joel Gibson for bringing the Parade to my attention, donating his time, labor and material to
make the float seaworthy and driving his mini-truck
RW Dave Weaver for allowing us to use his trailer
Home Depot for donating items that were used in building the float
Safford Dodge for donating a truck to pull the float
Brother James Brinner for driving his mini corvette (I hope he is finally warm) and donating the forms
for the flower arrangement that we used
Beautiful Flowers by Amy who donated the flowers for the Masonic Flower Arrangement
Job’s Daughters participated by handing out candy canes and information, and were as usual-upbeat and
comic relief
And, last but not least, all the brothers and their families who braved the cold to make it a special and
memorable evening.

We will be presenting an Eagle Scout with an Eagle Scout Award from the Grand Lodge sometime in January
(once I have the exact date I will pass that along). We should also be on the lookout for other Eagle Scouts and
Girl Scouts this year to present either an Eagle Scout Award or Girl Scout Gold Award, accordingly.
Additionally, we have special people in our community that are not Masons but make huge contributions with
their time and efforts for the betterment of the community we call home. If you know of anyone that stands out
please contact us, we would like to show them our support and gratitude by presenting them with the
Community Builders Award. This may be a volunteer fireman who has dedicated years of their time, a
neighbor who selflessly donates their time to the elderly, or a kid down the street that makes a difference for the
improvement of our community by his or her efforts that would otherwise go unnoticed.
As several Brothers have voiced concerns and frustration with the lack of cell coverage and the inability to work
proficiently on the internet while collectively working on projects at the lodge-Comcast will be installing cable
services on January 6, 2016 within the lodge. Solutions Granted, Inc., a national Information Technology and
Security company located in Woodbridge is generously donating the necessary infrastructure to secure, monitor,
and support a private Wi-Fi network. Once the equipment has been configured, installed and tested a password
will be provided for our use of the Wi-Fi network. In addition to this needed technology, we will be adding the
ability to pay dues, securely, via our Lodge Website.
Cleanup Day has been rescheduled to January 16, 2016 at 9:00am to allow for the Grand Lodge Division
Leadership Conference on January 9, 2016 in Warrenton. All those available to participate in Brother
Winkler’s Annual Gum Ball Festival please bring rakes and leaf blowers to help keep our grounds clean and
tidy.
If you have not been to a stated meeting in a while, please come by and visit us. Even if it is not possible for to
stay for the meeting, come by for fellowship and dinner. Please let me know if you are having travel issues we
can make arrangements for you to be picked up and dropped off. If by chance you need a rusty nail class, we
have lodge school on Thursdays and if you can’t make one of those let me know and I will come to you.
Without you, this fraternity (that teaches friendship, morality and brotherly love) does not exist.
Fraternally,
Dan Ford, WM
“Freemasonry has endured not because of its antiquity, its influence, or its social standing, but
because there have been so many who have lived it. The effectiveness of Masonic teaching will
always be the measure by which the outside world judges Freemasonry; the proof of

Freemasonry is in our deeds and it is in our deeds that Freemasonry is made known to nonMasons. The only way that the Craft can be judged is by its product. The prestige of
Freemasonry lies squarely on the shoulders of each of us.” – G. Wilbur Best
